About

A Light in the Dark, released in 2018, is a suspense-filled visual novel that immerses players in a captivating story. Developed as a collaboration between CreSpirit and the talented teams at Storia and Narrator, this indie title blends casual gameplay with engaging narrative elements. Its notable art style and intriguing plot twists set it apart in the crowded genre of visual novels, making it a compelling experience for fans of storytelling.

In terms of PC performance, A Light in the Dark is quite accessible, requiring only an entry-level GPU with a minimum score of around 300 to run smoothly. Players can expect a decent FPS performance even on modest hardware, with a minimum RAM requirement of just 2 GB. For optimal performance and to enjoy the game at higher graphics settings, a budget-friendly GPU like the NVIDIA GTX 750 or AMD Radeon R7 250 is recommended, ensuring a seamless experience.

If you're a fan of casual and indie games, A Light in the Dark is certainly worth a try, despite its 70/100 rating. Its unique storytelling and visual appeal make it a notable entry in the genre, providing engaging gameplay that will resonate with fans of narrative-driven experiences.

Performance profile

May 2018 release. A Light in the Dark was built around the GTX 10-series / RX Vega era. Current-gen mid-range cards (RTX 4060 / RX 7600) are overkill at 1080p and handle 1440p Ultra comfortably.

Indie and casual titles are typically light on hardware. A Light in the Dark runs well on almost any modern GPU, including integrated graphics on recent laptops — you won't need a dedicated card for a smooth experience.

Extremely light — A Light in the Dark runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.

Storyline

"──We cannot choose in this unfair world. Hao-Chen Jiang did not understand what it was when he opened his eyes. Before him was a dim and dreary room that he had not seen before. Trying to get up to turn on the lights, he finds that his arms are tied behind him and that is when he realizes that he's been kidnapped. It is then that a mysterious girl appears before him and with a look of disdain tells him that he's been kidnapped and unless his family agrees to pay a ransom he has no chance to escape. But perhaps there is more to this than just money... The rich boy stuck in his never changing daily life... The fierce girl struggling for survival... Two people in totally opposite positions in life. During his days of imprisonment, they will learn of a world they were never aware of which will crumble away at their deep-rooted prejudices. In the face of confusion and the choices before them, what will they find...?"
