About

"Alien Trilogy," released in 1996, is a first-person shooter that intricately weaves elements from the iconic Alien film series into its gameplay. Players navigate through 30 levels filled with a variety of terrifying enemies, including face huggers and Queen aliens, while utilizing an array of weapons to survive the horror that awaits. Its combination of action, horror, and memorable cinematic references makes it notable among fans of both the genre and the franchise.

When it comes to PC performance, "Alien Trilogy" is quite accessible, requiring only an entry-level GPU with a minimum score of around 300 to run effectively. Generally, players can expect smooth FPS even on older hardware, making it a great option for those without high-end gaming rigs. For best results, pairing it with mid-range GPUs would enhance the experience and graphics settings while ensuring stable performance throughout the game.

If you're a fan of retro shooters or the Alien franchise, "Alien Trilogy" is definitely worth playing, despite its mixed rating of 68/100. Its unique blend of horror and action provides an engaging experience, making it a solid choice for nostalgic gamers seeking to revisit classic titles.

Performance profile

Released in February 1996, Alien Trilogy predates modern GPU acceleration as we know it today. It runs effortlessly on virtually any current hardware, including integrated graphics and entry-level laptops — framerate is limited by the engine, not the GPU.

Extremely light — Alien Trilogy runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.

Storyline

In the role of Lieutenant Ellen Ripley, the player experiences a story loosely derived from the first three films of the Alien franchise. Aside from occasional CGI cut scenes, the plot is told through text-based mission briefings that guide the player through an expanded, action-oriented story, drawing upon the settings and characters of the then-trilogy rather than through the specific plots of the films themselves. The game begins in essentially the same manner as Aliens, as Ripley—here a marine herself—travels to LV426 to restore contact with the colony there. The other marines are wiped out, so Ripley must then travel through the infested colony and prison facility, and finally the crashed alien ship itself, to destroy the aliens and escape.
