About
BioShock, released in 2008, is a first-person shooter that revolutionized narrative-driven gaming with its immersive setting in the underwater city of Rapture. Players step into the shoes of Jack, a man who uncovers the dark secrets of this dystopian world while battling mutated inhabitants and using a unique plasmid system for combat and exploration. Its blend of engaging storytelling, artistic graphics, and exceptional atmosphere has made it a standout title in the gaming community.
In terms of PC performance, BioShock is quite accessible given its 2008 release, requiring only an entry-level GPU with a minimum score of around 51 to deliver an enjoyable experience. Players can expect decent FPS on older systems, making it a great option for those with modest hardware. To optimize performance, consider using lower graphics settings if you're working with minimal memory, as the game requires at least 1 GB of RAM to run smoothly, allowing for a more enjoyable benchmark experience.
With an impressive rating of 86/100, BioShock is a must-play for fans of narrative-heavy games and FPS enthusiasts alike. Its innovative gameplay and storytelling will keep you engaged, making it a worthy addition to any gaming library.
Performance profile
October 2008 release. BioShock targets mid-2000s-to-early-2010s hardware — any modern entry-level GPU (GTX 1650 tier or newer integrated graphics) handles it at 1080p Ultra without breaking a sweat.
Extremely light — BioShock runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.
Storyline
In the year 1960, a plane crashes in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean with a man named Jack as the only survivor. He has the apparent luck of resurfacing in front of what looks like a door to an underwater complex. Without hesitating, Jack enters the door and is greeted by slogans that praise the city of Rapture, a paradise of free will built in the 1940s by a business magnate named Andrew Ryan. However, even before he assimilates all this new information, the descent to this supposed paradise ends and he can only see ruins and chaos. Learning about the destiny of Rapture will be now Jack's main motivation while he tries to survive the horrors that free can create.
