About

Cool Spot, released in 1993, is a unique platform game that features the mascot of the popular soft drink brand 7 Up. Players control a red spot with sunglasses, navigating through vibrant, cartoonish worlds filled with various enemies and challenges. Its notable charm lies in its appealing graphics and engaging gameplay, which set it apart in the crowded platform genre of the early '90s.

When it comes to PC performance, Cool Spot is quite accessible, requiring only an entry-level GPU with a minimum score of around 300 to achieve satisfactory FPS benchmarks. This means that even budget-friendly graphics cards can handle the game comfortably, making it easy for a wide range of players to enjoy. If you're looking to run it at higher graphical settings while maintaining smooth frame rates, consider mid-tier GPUs for an even better performance.

In conclusion, despite its modest rating of 63/100, Cool Spot offers a nostalgic platforming experience that can be enjoyable for both casual gamers and those appreciating retro gaming. If you're a fan of the genre or the mascot's charm, it's definitely worth a try.

Performance profile

Released in April 1993, Cool Spot predates modern GPU acceleration as we know it today. It runs effortlessly on virtually any current hardware, including integrated graphics and entry-level laptops — framerate is limited by the engine, not the GPU.

Extremely light — Cool Spot runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.

Storyline

In each level the player must rescue other cool spots, who look exactly alike, from cages at the end of that level, which is not necessarily the point at the far right of the level map. In order to do so, the player is required to collect a certain number of "spots" that would change (usually increase) as the game progressed. "Spots" were placed across the level in large quantities, and were the game's substitute for items such as the coins in Super Mario Bros
