About

"Earthworm Jim," released in 1994, is a classic platform shooter that has captivated gamers with its unique blend of humor and innovative gameplay. Players take on the role of Jim, a worm in a high-tech suit, on a mission to thwart the evil Psy-Crow and rescue the ultra-high-tech cyber-suit. The game is notable for its quirky characters, vibrant graphics, and creative level design, making it a memorable title that stands out in the 90s gaming landscape.

When it comes to performance on PC, "Earthworm Jim" is quite accessible, requiring only an entry-level GPU with a minimum benchmark score of around 300 to run smoothly. With 1 GB of RAM, players can expect solid FPS rates even on modest hardware, meaning you won't need a high-end gaming rig to enjoy this retro gem. For optimal performance, consider pairing your setup with a compatible mid-range GPU to elevate your gaming experience while enjoying the whimsical graphics settings the game has to offer.

Given its solid rating of 77/100 and engaging platform shooter mechanics, "Earthworm Jim" is definitely worth playing, especially for fans of classic games. Its unique charm and challenging levels keep players entertained, making it a nostalgic trip that can still be appreciated within the modern gaming landscape.

Performance profile

Released in October 1994, Earthworm Jim predates modern GPU acceleration as we know it today. It runs effortlessly on virtually any current hardware, including integrated graphics and entry-level laptops — framerate is limited by the engine, not the GPU.

Earthworm Jim is latency-sensitive: a high refresh-rate monitor (144 Hz+) and consistent 1% low framerate matter more than raw averages. Aim for a GPU that delivers 20–30% more headroom than the "just 60 FPS" tier to keep frame pacing smooth during intense fights.

Extremely light — Earthworm Jim runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.

Storyline

Jim is a normal earthworm, until a special "super suit" falls from the sky and allows him to operate much like a human, with his "worm-part" acting as a head and the suit acting as arms, body, and legs. Jim's task is two-fold, he must evade the game's many antagonists, who are after him because they want the suit back, and also rescue and protect Princess What's-Her-Name from them. The game plays out with Jim eluding and defeating all enemies, and saving Princess What's-Her-Name. However, not only does she not return Jim's affection, but she is also crushed by the flying cow that was launched at the beginning of the game by Jim himself.
