About

Five Nights at Freddy's (2014) is an indie survival horror simulation that became a cultural phenomenon despite its simple premise. You play as a night security guard at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, tasked with monitoring animatronic characters that become increasingly hostile after dark. The game's tense atmosphere and jump-scare mechanics made it notable for revitalizing interest in horror gaming on a minimal budget.

Performance-wise, Five Nights at Freddy's is exceptionally lightweight and runs smoothly on virtually any modern GPU. With just 1 GB of RAM required, even integrated graphics from budget processors will deliver well over 60 FPS at high settings. You won't need to adjust graphics settings or worry about benchmark performance—this is an accessible title that prioritizes gameplay over visual fidelity, making it perfect for older or lower-end systems.

Despite its modest 65/100 rating, Five Nights at Freddy's remains worth playing if you enjoy horror and survival mechanics. Its cultural impact and unique premise have made it a classic indie title that defined a generation of horror games.

Performance profile

Released in August 2014, Five Nights at Freddy's sits in the DirectX 11 generation. Comfortable on any modern mid-range GPU at 1440p; even an RTX 3050 or RX 6600 typically delivers 4K60 at High settings.

Simulation titles like Five Nights at Freddy's are heavily CPU-dependent — physics, AI and world state dominate the frame budget. Prioritise a CPU with strong single-thread performance and fast RAM over raw GPU power.

Extremely light — Five Nights at Freddy's runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.

Storyline

Freddy Fazbear's Pizza was once a popular restaurant for adults and children alike. However, due to a number of incidents including the kidnapping and implied murder of five children by a man wearing an empty animatronic suit, sanctions by the Health Department over the numerous reports of dirtiness, and "The Bite of '87", the pizzeria has fallen on hard times. Freddy Fazbear's Pizza is set to close by the end of the year, as potential buyers do not want to be associated with the tainted reputation of the company. The four mascots - Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie the Rabbit, Chica the Chicken, and Foxy the Pirate had a particularly foul odor and what appeared to be "blood and mucus" around their eyes and mouths, which concerned parents had interpreted as "reanimated carcasses".
