About

God of War II, released in 2009, is a highly praised action-adventure hack-and-slash game developed by Santa Monica Studio. Set against the backdrop of ancient Greece, the game weaves a gripping tale of vengeance and betrayal, centering around the protagonist Kratos, who wields immense power as the new God of War. With its engaging gameplay mechanics and dramatic narrative, God of War II stands out as a key title in the series, capturing the imaginations of players with its epic battles and stunning environments.

When it comes to PC performance, God of War II is relatively accessible, requiring only an entry-level GPU with a minimum score of around 600 and at least 1 GB of RAM to run smoothly. For those seeking optimal FPS, a mid-tier GPU will significantly enhance the gaming experience, allowing for higher graphics settings and more fluid gameplay. Most players can expect solid performance without the need for cutting-edge hardware, making it a great choice for a wider range of systems.

With a solid rating of 80/100, God of War II is definitely worth playing for fans of the genre. Its combination of captivating storytelling, intense action, and visually impressive graphics make it a memorable experience that appeals to both newcomers and long-time enthusiasts of the franchise.

Performance profile

November 2009 release. God of War II targets mid-2000s-to-early-2010s hardware — any modern entry-level GPU (GTX 1650 tier or newer integrated graphics) handles it at 1080p Ultra without breaking a sweat.

Extremely light — God of War II runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.

Storyline

God of War II takes place shortly after the events of God of War: Ghost of Sparta, but over 13 years after the events of God of War; Kratos, after defeating Ares, has become the new God of War, but unfortunately has not been accepted by the other Gods due to his ruthless treatment of the other Greek city-states. Kratos is still haunted by memories of the deeds from his past while working under Ares. He finds enjoyment the only way he can, by leading and aiding his Spartan army in conquering Greece. Athena pleads that Kratos stop, telling him that she cannot protect him much longer from the wrath of Olympus and that he should not turn his back on her because it was she who made him a god. Kratos replies that he owes nothing to her and descends to the battle of Rhodes to assist his Spartan army.
