About

Harvest Moon: Back to Nature, released in 1999, is a beloved entry in Natsume's iconic farm simulation series. As players step into the shoes of a young heir tasked with revitalizing their grandfather's farm, they engage in a blend of farming, social interaction, and resource management that encapsulates the charm of the genre. This game stands out not only as the first Harvest Moon title on a non-Nintendo console but also for its engaging gameplay that has garnered a solid rating of 86/100.

In terms of PC performance, Harvest Moon: Back to Nature is quite accessible, making it ideal for a variety of setups. Players can expect smooth gameplay with an entry-level GPU, generally those with a minimum score of around 1000, and at least 4 GB of RAM. Given its low hardware demands, it ensures an enjoyable experience without needing high-end specifications, allowing for decent FPS even on older systems while playing at standard graphics settings.

For anyone who appreciates simulation games or the nostalgic charm of retro titles, Harvest Moon: Back to Nature is definitely worth playing. With its solid rating and engaging mechanics, it promises countless hours of satisfaction while tending to your virtual farm. Whether you're looking for a casual gaming experience or a deep dive into farm management, this classic delivers on all fronts.

Performance profile

Released in December 1999, Harvest Moon: Back to Nature predates modern GPU acceleration as we know it today. It runs effortlessly on virtually any current hardware, including integrated graphics and entry-level laptops — framerate is limited by the engine, not the GPU.

Extremely light — Harvest Moon: Back to Nature runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.

Storyline

As a young boy, the main character went to his grandfather's farm for the summer. His grandfather was too busy taking care of the farm to spend much time with him, so the boy explored the town and countryside on his own. The boy befriended his grandfather's puppy and met a little girl his own age, with whom he became close friends. When the summer was over, the boy had to go back home, but he promised the little girl that he would return someday. Ten years later, years after his grandfather's death, the boy – now a grown man – returns to the town to take over the farm. Upon meeting the main character, the mayor and other villagers decide that he would be allowed to stay as the rightful owner if he restored the farm to its original state within three years. Otherwise, he would have to leave.
