About
Sonic Adventure 2, released in 2012 as a remastered version of the original game, combines platforming and racing mechanics in an action-adventure format. Players control iconic characters like Sonic and Shadow while navigating vibrant environments filled with rings, obstacles, and collectibles. This remaster enhances the graphics using assets from Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, making it a notable entry in the Sonic franchise for both new and returning fans.
When it comes to performance on PC, Sonic Adventure 2 is quite accessible, requiring only an entry-level GPU with a minimum score of around 141. With just 1 GB of RAM necessary, most modern systems should have no issue running the game smoothly. Expect achievable FPS rates even on lower graphics settings, making it a great benchmark for testing budget GPUs without demanding high-end performance.
Given its rating of 73/100, you might wonder if you should dive into Sonic Adventure 2. If you're a fan of platformers or looking for a nostalgic experience from the Sonic universe, this remastered title is worth considering for a lighthearted gaming session. It offers enough charm and nostalgia to entertain, especially for those fond of the series.
Performance profile
October 2012 release. Sonic Adventure 2 targets mid-2000s-to-early-2010s hardware — any modern entry-level GPU (GTX 1650 tier or newer integrated graphics) handles it at 1080p Ultra without breaking a sweat.
Extremely light — Sonic Adventure 2 runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.
Storyline
Learning of a secret weapon from the diary of his deceased grandfather, Professor Gerald Robotnik, Eggman infiltrates a high-security G.U.N. facility and revives it using a Chaos Emerald. The weapon – a black hedgehog and self-proclaimed "Ultimate Life Form" named Shadow – offers to help Eggman conquer the world, telling him to rendezvous at an abandoned space colony, ARK, with more Chaos Emeralds. Shadow goes to Central City, encountering G.U.N.'s forces after stealing an Emerald. Shadow has vowed to fulfill a promise to a girl, Maria, which he interprets as one of revenge. Shadow blasts through the military force and meets Sonic. After a brief confrontation, Shadow escapes and G.U.N. captures Sonic, whom they mistake for Shadow. Meanwhile, Knuckles encounters Rouge and Eggman, who try to steal the Master Emerald. He stops them by shattering the Emerald and searches for the scattered shards. Rouge, spying for the government, heads to Eggman's base and the ARK. There, Shadow shows Eggman the Eclipse Cannon, another superweapon created by Gerald, and discloses his plan: to charge the cannon with Chaos Emeralds and use it to take over the world. Rouge appears, offering them a Chaos Emerald to gain their trust.
