About
Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly, released in 2002, is the fourth installment in the beloved Spyro the Dragon series. Transitioning to the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo GameCube, this action-adventure game retained elements familiar to fans, allowing players to control Spyro as he embarks on new quests while using various vehicles, including Hunter's Manta Ray and UFOs. Its colorful graphics and engaging platforming make it a notable entry in the franchise, though it received a mixed reception with a score of 67/100.
When considering performance on PC, Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly is relatively accessible compared to more demanding titles. The game requires a minimum of 2 GB RAM and an entry-level GPU, making it suitable for lower-end systems with a benchmark score of around 268. Players looking for smooth gameplay and optimal FPS should aim for a mid-range GPU to enhance graphics settings and enjoy the whimsical world without performance hitches.
If you're a fan of platformers or the Spyro series, this game is worth a try despite its mixed critical reception. While it may not be the best title in the franchise, the engaging gameplay and nostalgic vibe could make for an enjoyable experience, especially for those looking to relive or discover Spyro's adventures.
Performance profile
Released in November 2002, Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly comes from the DirectX 9 era. Even the cheapest modern discrete GPU crushes it at maxed-out settings; the only real bottleneck today is CPU single-thread speed on older titles that were never multi-threaded.
Extremely light — Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.
Storyline
The story begins shortly after Year of the Dragon. The dragons are in celebration of a rite of passage for the young dragons and for the Grand Dragon Parade, with the arrival of new young dragonfly guardians for the baby dragons. However, during the party, Ripto teleports in via a portal along with his henchmen Crush and Gulp, disrupting the celebration, intent on capturing the new young dragonflies to weaken the baby dragons. However, his spell misfires and the dragonflies become scattered throughout the Dragon Realms. Spyro is tasked with recovering the realms' new crop of dragonflies.
