About

Strider, released in 1989, is a classic action-platformer that has garnered a rating of 68/100. Players control Hiryu, a skilled ninja armed with a plasma sword called "Cypher" as he embarks on a mission to defeat oppressive foes. The game is notable for its fast-paced gameplay and the ability to perform acrobatic feats, offering a thrilling experience that captures the essence of 8-bit gaming.

For players looking to run Strider on PC, the game's low hardware requirements make it highly accessible. An entry-level GPU with a minimum score of around 1992 is sufficient to achieve smooth FPS performance, making it easy to enjoy even on older systems. It's recommended to have at least 4 GB of RAM to ensure optimal performance, allowing players to engage with the action while adjusting graphics settings for a customized experience.

If you're a fan of retro action-platformers, Strider is worth your time despite its mixed rating. Its fast-paced gameplay and nostalgic appeal can be a delightful escape, especially if you appreciate 80s gaming culture. While it may not be a top-tier title, it offers unique challenges that are enjoyable for both newcomers and seasoned gamers alike.

Performance profile

Released in March 1989, Strider predates modern GPU acceleration as we know it today. It runs effortlessly on virtually any current hardware, including integrated graphics and entry-level laptops — framerate is limited by the engine, not the GPU.

Extremely light — Strider runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.

Storyline

Strider is set in a dystopian future in the year 2048, where a mysterious dictator known as the "Grandmaster" rules over the world. Hiryu, the youngest ever Super A Ranked[2] member of an organization of high-tech ninja-like agents known as the "Striders", is alone tasked with the Grandmaster's assassination. Hiryu begins his mission by infiltrating the Grandmaster's capital at the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic.
