About
The Sims 2: Open for Business, released in 2006, is the third expansion pack for the beloved life simulation game, The Sims 2. In this expansion, players can take on the entrepreneurial role by designing and managing their own businesses, such as clothing boutiques, beauty salons, and restaurants. The game allows for a unique blend of creativity and strategy, making it notable as players not only create their Sims' homes but also their professional endeavors.
In terms of performance, The Sims 2: Open for Business is quite accessible, requiring only an entry-level GPU with a minimum score of around 23 to ensure smooth gameplay. Players can expect reasonable FPS even on older hardware, making the game a great option for those with budget PCs. For optimal performance, pairing it with a mid-tier GPU will allow for better graphics settings and an overall smoother experience, enhancing gameplay during those bustling business interactions.
If you enjoy simulation games and have an affinity for creative management, then The Sims 2: Open for Business is worth a try. With a solid rating of 80/100, it offers engaging gameplay that can easily consume your hours, especially if you're a fan of crafting stories both in life and in business.
Performance profile
Released in February 2006, The Sims 2: Open for Business comes from the DirectX 9 era. Even the cheapest modern discrete GPU crushes it at maxed-out settings; the only real bottleneck today is CPU single-thread speed on older titles that were never multi-threaded.
Extremely light — The Sims 2: Open for Business runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.
Storyline
Sims can open their own shops and restaurants, and lead their business to great success (or dismal failure!) through careful management and competent customer service. As the boss of their new businesses, players' Sims are responsible for hiring and firing. Some employees are dedicated to their duties while others just put in time for a paycheck, so grooming an efficient staff can be a rewarding challenge. Like earlier Sims expansion packs, Open for Business adds over 100 new objects to the game, many of which can be used at home as well as at work. Cash registers and service counters, awnings and elevators, and a wide selection of costumes and uniforms become available with the add-on. New areas are offered for builders, where they can custom-create the retail shop of their Sims' dreams.
