About

The Sims: Livin' Large, released in 2000, is the first expansion pack for the iconic life simulation game, The Sims. This notable addition allows players to explore new characters, careers, and items, while introducing unique features with a blend of sci-fi, fantasy, and supernatural elements, such as the Paranormal career track. With its open-ended gameplay, players can create and control their Sims in a virtual world, shaping their lives and relationships in a truly unique experience.

In terms of PC performance, The Sims: Livin' Large is relatively accessible, requiring only an entry-level GPU for optimal performance. Gamers can expect solid FPS on systems equipped with at least 1 GB of RAM and a minimum GPU score of around 3. For those looking to enhance their gaming experience further, mid-tier GPUs are recommended, ensuring smooth gameplay and better graphics settings, making it easy to enjoy the expansion pack without heavy performance demands.

If you enjoy life simulation games and are interested in expanding your gameplay with new careers and features, The Sims: Livin' Large is worth your time. Despite its rating of 70/100, the creativity and charm in the game consistently draw players in, making for a rewarding experience that stands the test of time.

Performance profile

Released in August 2000, The Sims: Livin' Large predates modern GPU acceleration as we know it today. It runs effortlessly on virtually any current hardware, including integrated graphics and entry-level laptops — framerate is limited by the engine, not the GPU.

Extremely light — The Sims: Livin' Large runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.

Storyline

The game features new NPCs, such as Servo, the Tragic Clown, and the Grim Reaper. Santa Claus will come if the Sim leaves some cookies beside a Christmas tree, and a fireplace. Santa will leave presents under the tree. The Tragic Clown visits depressed Sims who own the Tragic Clown painting in order to cheer them up, always failing miserably. Sims can contract an illness from a bite by the guinea pig included in this expansion. The Grim Reaper performs the final rites for deceased Sims. Living Sims can plead with the Reaper to save that particular Sim, which will result in three possible outcomes: death, resurrection, or a zombie. Livin' Large comes with many new objects, such as a crystal ball, electric guitar, chemistry set, and magic lamp. Some of the objects had new NPCs associated with them. For example, a genie appears from the magic lamp and a booth comes with a Servo. Multiple neighborhoods were introduced in this expansion pack, allowing the player to have up to five new ones.
