About

Cataclysm: Bright Nights, released in 2020, is an open-source RPG and simulation game that serves as a notable fork of the popular Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead. This game enhances the original experience by introducing a more balanced combat system and a heavier emphasis on sci-fi elements. With a wealth of rebalanced mechanics and quality-of-life improvements, players can expect a more fluid gameplay experience while navigating a post-apocalyptic world filled with challenges.

For PC performance, Cataclysm: Bright Nights is quite accessible, making it suitable for a wide range of GPUs. The minimum requirement is an entry-level GPU with a score of around 300, ensuring that even budget-friendly setups can achieve satisfactory FPS. Players with systems equipped with mid-range GPUs can expect higher graphics settings to deliver smoother performance and enhanced visuals, making for a more enjoyable gameplay experience.

If you're a fan of RPGs and simulation games, Cataclysm: Bright Nights comes highly recommended. Its unique blend of engaging combat and robust mechanics, combined with generally positive player feedback, makes it a worthy addition to any gaming library. Whether you’re in it for the challenge or the immersive storytelling, this title offers plenty of reasons to dive in.

Performance profile

Released in June 2020, Cataclysm: Bright Nights targets RTX 20/30-series and RX 6000-era hardware. A current mid-range GPU (RTX 4060 Ti / RX 7700 XT) is the sweet spot for 1440p Ultra; 4K needs a high-end card.

Simulation titles like Cataclysm: Bright Nights are heavily CPU-dependent — physics, AI and world state dominate the frame budget. Prioritise a CPU with strong single-thread performance and fast RAM over raw GPU power.

Extremely light — Cataclysm: Bright Nights runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.

Storyline

Bright Night has a single, linear timeline in a single universe, just with multiple "dimensions", only one of which will have Earth in it. Yet, there are clear time travel case with "Challenge - Medieval Peasant". Consider this as unknown anomaly. While some have described it as a "zombie game", there is far more to Cataclysm: Bright Nights than that. Struggle to survive in a harsh, persistent, procedurally generated world. Scavenge the remnants of a dead civilization for food, equipment, or, if you are lucky, a vehicle with a full tank of gas to get you the hell out of there. Fight to defeat or escape from a wide variety of powerful monstrosities, from zombies to giant insects to killer robots and things far stranger and deadlier, and against the others like yourself, who want what you have. Find a way to stop the Cataclysm... or become one of its strongest monsters.
