About

God of War (2018) is an action-adventure game that reimagines the beloved franchise through Norse mythology, following a battle-hardened Kratos and his son Atreus on an epic journey. The game combines intense combat encounters with exploration, puzzles, and a gripping narrative that elevated the series beyond its previous installments. With a 92/100 rating, it's widely regarded as one of the finest action games ever made, blending brutal gameplay with emotional storytelling.

The PC port is moderately demanding but scales well across different hardware configurations. To achieve smooth 60 FPS at high settings, an RTX 2070 or RX 5700 XT GPU is recommended, while an RTX 2060 or RX 5600 XT can handle 1440p gaming at medium settings. Lower-end GPUs like the RTX 1660 will manage 1080p at reduced graphics settings without compromising the benchmark performance experience. The game offers comprehensive graphics options, allowing you to fine-tune performance on your specific system.

God of War is absolutely worth playing if you enjoy narrative-driven action games with spectacular visuals and challenging combat. The combination of engaging storytelling, gorgeous graphics, and responsive gameplay makes it one of the best gaming experiences available on PC.

Performance profile

April 2018 release. God of War was built around the GTX 10-series / RX Vega era. Current-gen mid-range cards (RTX 4060 / RX 7600) are overkill at 1080p and handle 1440p Ultra comfortably.

RPGs like God of War stress VRAM during long sessions — texture streaming, mods and open-world traversal inflate memory use over time. 8 GB VRAM is a practical floor; 12 GB+ is worth the headroom at 1440p and above.

Mid-range territory. An RTX 3060 or RX 6700 XT delivers 60 FPS at 1080p High in God of War. For 1440p Ultra you'll want an RTX 4060 Ti / RX 7700 XT; 4K Ultra needs an RTX 4070 Ti or faster.

Storyline

Many years have passed since Kratos, Spartan warrior and former Greek God of War, took his vengeance against the Greek Gods, and he now lives with his young son Atreus in ancient Norway in the realm of Midgard. The game begins after the death of the Jötunn warrior Faye, Kratos' second wife and Atreus' mother, whose last request was for her ashes to be spread at the highest speak of the nine realms. Kratos and Atreus prepare a funeral pyre for her, mourn her death and soon go on a hunt as per Kratos' desire. However much to Kratos' disappointment, Atreus proves his incompetence and lack of focus, making Kratos reconsider taking Atreus in his journey. Kratos is soon attacked by a mysterious stranger with godlike powers, and who cannot feel anything physically. After seemingly killing him, Kratos reluctantly takes Atreus with him and begins their journey.
