About
Dark and Light, released in 2017, is an ambitious sandbox RPG that immerses players in a world influenced by powerful elemental forces. This action-adventure game offers a unique blend of crafting, building, and skill development, allowing players to explore a beautifully designed landscape filled with mythical creatures. With over 100 abilities to unlock, Dark and Light stands out as an engaging title for those who enjoy expansive role-playing experiences.
For PC gamers looking to run Dark and Light smoothly, the game is relatively accessible. The minimum requirements include an entry-level GPU with a benchmark score of around 6138 and at least 8 GB of RAM. Players aiming for optimal performance and FPS should consider mid-tier GPUs to achieve better graphics settings and a stable frame rate, especially in multiplayer scenarios where the game can demand more resources.
While Dark and Light has a mixed rating of 50/100, its combination of RPG mechanics and open-world exploration may appeal to fans of the genre. If you appreciate early access titles that offer a vast playground filled with discovery, it could be worth trying despite its challenges and performance considerations.
Performance profile
July 2017 release. Dark and Light was built around the GTX 10-series / RX Vega era. Current-gen mid-range cards (RTX 4060 / RX 7600) are overkill at 1080p and handle 1440p Ultra comfortably.
Simulation titles like Dark and Light are heavily CPU-dependent — physics, AI and world state dominate the frame budget. Prioritise a CPU with strong single-thread performance and fast RAM over raw GPU power.
Mid-range territory. An RTX 3060 or RX 6700 XT delivers 60 FPS at 1080p High in Dark and Light. For 1440p Ultra you'll want an RTX 4060 Ti / RX 7700 XT; 4K Ultra needs an RTX 4070 Ti or faster.
Storyline
Ages ago, Gaia was attacked by dark forces and collapsed, plunging the world into darkness. Many sought exodus to Alpha, one of Gaia’s satellite planets - unwittingly (or for some, perhaps intentionally) bringing the dark forces along with them. As a result, Alpha’s atmosphere has been adversely affected, causing some strange occurrences on the planet during the night. During the day, Alpha’s landscape is peaceful, but once the sun sets, the planet immediately plunges into chaos. Occasionally, the remnants of Gaia will block out the sun, causing an eclipse on Alpha, resulting in a violent, bloodthirsty frenzy among the Alpha’s native creature. Eclipses also provide an opportunity to obtain incredibly rare magical resources, so players must learn to survive during eclipses if they want to thrive.
