About
Fictorum, released in 2017, is an action RPG that offers a unique gaming experience through its destructible environments and a dynamic magic shaping system. Players traverse a procedural node-based world map, allowing for varied gameplay and exploration. The combination of a compelling magic system and the ability to bring entire structures down enhances the thrill of combat, making it a notable title within the indie gaming scene.
In terms of PC performance, Fictorum is relatively accessible, requiring only an entry-level GPU with a minimum score of around 4823. Players will find that 8 GB of RAM is necessary to run the game smoothly, though the overall graphics settings can be adjusted to achieve optimal FPS based on available hardware. For a satisfactory experience, consider GPUs in the mid-range tier to ensure stable performance and enjoyable gameplay.
Based on its 50/100 rating, Fictorum may be a mixed bag, but it appeals to those who enjoy immersive action RPGs with a focus on destructible environments and dynamic magic. If you’re a fan of indie games and not deterred by its imperfections, it’s worth a try for a unique take on the genre.
Performance profile
August 2017 release. Fictorum was built around the GTX 10-series / RX Vega era. Current-gen mid-range cards (RTX 4060 / RX 7600) are overkill at 1080p and handle 1440p Ultra comfortably.
RPGs like Fictorum stress VRAM during long sessions — texture streaming, mods and open-world traversal inflate memory use over time. 8 GB VRAM is a practical floor; 12 GB+ is worth the headroom at 1440p and above.
Entry-level hardware target. A GTX 1650 or RX 6500 XT reaches 60 FPS at 1080p Medium in Fictorum; an RTX 4060 comfortably sustains 1440p Ultra. 4K Ultra 60 FPS needs an RTX 4070 or better.
Storyline
"Centuries ago, rival Magical Orders struggled for supremacy and control over the realm. Magicians within an Order would study for most of their lifetime to master a single school of magic. After decades of combat on the battlefield and in the great courts, a clear power emerged; The Fictorum, born with the talent to master all offensive schools of magic. Threatened by their supremacy, the Orders banded together to overcome the Fictorum. Battered by overwhelming numbers, the Fictorum dwindled and were nearly defeated until... The Great Cataclysm: an elite of the Fictorum order used his powers to envelop the planet in shadow; a simple mist with the capability to corrupt and destroy all it touches. Millions died as a result and, though his efforts were effective, humanity endured—at the highest points of the world where the mist cannot reach. The surviving group of Magical Orders, now calling themselves the Inquisition, worked together to hunt down the remaining Fictorum to prevent this incredible power from ever being used again. They built magical nexuses in the dormant ley-line network spreading across the planet, providing survivors transport between the mountaintops. Utilizing theses nexuses, humanity built settlements and eventually entire civilizations perched on the crown of the world. All the while, the Inquisition remained vigilant for traces of the Fictorum. You and a handful of others are the last of the surviving line of Fictorum. Without the lust for destruction some of your predecessors possessed, you have spent all of your life studying with your Order on the deadly outskirts of the ley-line network, where the Inquisition dare not tread. Your studies have passed without much incident until recently; storms with surges of the mist have been occurring more and more frequently, bringing with it terrible, twisted creatures that challenge even your own considerable powers. As the frequency of these storms increased, you and the others of your order abandoned your home in search of safety and, after a time, were captured by the Inquisition. Though your Elders explained that they meant no harm and pleaded to be taken to the Grand Inquisitor to explain the new threats of the storms, they were executed by the army sent to dispatch you. Helpless, you were forced to watch as your friends, colleagues, and family were slaughtered before you. As the last Fictorum awaiting execution, those that found you thought it a fitting end to force you to walk into the corruption that the First had caused. Stretching the limits of your power, you have survived, but your body has been warped with corruption. Though previously young, you have aged decades. Your mind flickers with the horrors you saw above and within the depths of the mist. The Inquisition is responsible for what happened to you and your Order, and, since they will not listen, they will burn for what they have done."
