Frostpunk is a 2018 society survival game from the creators of This War of Mine that blends simulation and strategy gameplay in a frozen post-apocalyptic setting. You'll build and manage the last city on Earth while making difficult decisions about resource allocation, technology, and social order as your community battles overwhelming cold. The game's unique premise and focus on meaningful choice make it stand out in the strategy genre.
Running Frostpunk is quite accessible for most gaming PCs, as it's not particularly demanding compared to modern AAA titles. An entry-level GPU with a benchmark score around 4047 meets the minimum requirements, and you'll achieve solid 60+ FPS performance on modest hardware with standard graphics settings. The game scales well, so investing in a better GPU will smoothly increase your FPS at higher resolutions and quality levels, but it's far from necessary.

April 2018 release. Frostpunk was built around the GTX 10-series / RX Vega era. Current-gen mid-range cards (RTX 4060 / RX 7600) are overkill at 1080p and handle 1440p Ultra comfortably.
As a strategy title, Frostpunk is typically CPU-bound rather than GPU-bound — single-thread CPU performance dictates framerate during large-scale battles, end-game saves and late-game AI turns. A fast modern 6-core will help more than a GPU upgrade.
Entry-level hardware target. A GTX 1650 or RX 6500 XT reaches 60 FPS at 1080p Medium in Frostpunk; an RTX 4060 comfortably sustains 1440p Ultra. 4K Ultra 60 FPS needs an RTX 4070 or better.
Storyline
In an entirely frozen world, people develop steam-powered technology to oppose the overwhelming cold. The city’s ruler has to manage both the citizens and the infrastructure they live in. The leader’s tactical skills face challenges that will frequently question morality and the basic foundations of what we consider organized society. Optimization and resource management often clash with empathy and thoughtful decision-making. While city and society management will consume most of the ruler’s time, at some point exploration of the outside world is necessary to understand its history and present state. What decisions will you make to ensure the survival of your society? What will you do when pushed to the limit? And... ...who will you become in the process?
