About
Railgrade, released in 2022, is a unique construction strategy game that allows players to build intricate railway networks to connect future off-world cities and industries. This simulation challenges you to deliver essential resources via a bustling train system while optimizing production and improving the economy of a failing earth colony. Its blend of strategy and resource management makes Railgrade a notable addition to the genre.
When it comes to PC performance, Railgrade is quite accessible. The game requires only an entry-level GPU, with a minimum score of around 4000, making it friendly for a wide range of hardware setups. With at least 4 GB of RAM, players can expect smooth gameplay even at higher graphics settings, achieving decent FPS on mid-tier GPUs. This ensures that both casual and dedicated gamers can enjoy the experience without needing top-tier components.
Considering its engaging gameplay and positive reception, Railgrade is worth playing for fans of simulation and strategy games. With its focus on resource management and economic rebuilding, it provides a fulfilling challenge for players looking to improve their railway empire.
Performance profile
Released in September 2022, Railgrade targets RTX 20/30-series and RX 6000-era hardware. A current mid-range GPU (RTX 4060 Ti / RX 7700 XT) is the sweet spot for 1440p Ultra; 4K needs a high-end card.
As a strategy title, Railgrade is typically CPU-bound rather than GPU-bound — single-thread CPU performance dictates framerate during large-scale battles, end-game saves and late-game AI turns. A fast modern 6-core will help more than a GPU upgrade.
Entry-level hardware target. A GTX 1650 or RX 6500 XT reaches 60 FPS at 1080p Medium in Railgrade; an RTX 4060 comfortably sustains 1440p Ultra. 4K Ultra 60 FPS needs an RTX 4070 or better.
Storyline
RAILGRADE is a construction strategy game about building railway networks to connect future, off-world cities with valuable industry. As the last remaining employee on a corporate-owned earth colony, it’s up to you to salvage the remains of the planet’s economy following a disastrous management mishap. With dozens of trains at your disposal, it’s up to you to manage the production of goods and ensure the delivery of essential resources in order to create a thriving industrial colony once more. In a near-future, corporations have transformed distant planets into industrial colonies, harvesting their resources for commercial gain. Your employer, Nakatani Chemicals, has lost control of one colony following a complete economic collapse - so it’s now up to you to salvage what’s left using retrofitted train transport. Build tracks, buy trains and transport the required cargo to reach your goal. Develop a truly successful transport economy by creating the most efficient system possible, and perhaps what’s left of the colony, and your career, will be restored. With simple construction tools it’s easy to jump in and start building a busy railway delivery system. Carefully consider the placement of tracks to overcome mountains, canyons or other challenging terrain, and create the fastest, or most cost-efficient route for delivery. Control resource inputs and outputs, optimise workflow, or increase the speed of production with catalysts and workers. Maintain a constant level of production across industries, or deliver enough water and other necessities, and the cities of the colony will begin to expand and thrive once again. Use your earnings to buy new train engines with different attributes, construct useful buildings like a lawyers firm or water pumps, and even research new industries to invest in: such as Steel, Oil and Ore. It’s up to you to decide whether to invest in the growth of your city, or focus purely on your own profit.
