About

Surviving the Aftermath, released in 2021, is a strategy simulation game that immerses players in a post-apocalyptic world where survival and resource management are key. As a colony leader, you will build and maintain a disaster-proof settlement while ensuring the safety and welfare of your colonists. The game's unique premise draws players in as they navigate the challenges of restoring civilization amidst scarcity and danger.

In terms of PC performance, Surviving the Aftermath is relatively accessible, making it playable on a wide range of systems. The minimum GPU requirement is an entry-level graphics card with a benchmark score around 4470, while the CPU should have a score of approximately 4142 and at least 4 GB of RAM. For an optimal gaming experience with higher FPS and better graphics settings, consider using a mid-tier GPU such as the NVIDIA GTX 1650 or AMD RX 570 to achieve smooth performance during gameplay.

While the game has received a mixed review rating of 53/100, fans of strategy and simulation genres may still find it engaging for its innovative mechanics and post-apocalyptic narrative. If you enjoy survival strategy games where your decisions shape the fate of a colony, Surviving the Aftermath could be a worthwhile addition to your gaming library.

Performance profile

Released in November 2021, Surviving the Aftermath targets RTX 20/30-series and RX 6000-era hardware. A current mid-range GPU (RTX 4060 Ti / RX 7700 XT) is the sweet spot for 1440p Ultra; 4K needs a high-end card.

As a strategy title, Surviving the Aftermath is typically CPU-bound rather than GPU-bound — single-thread CPU performance dictates framerate during large-scale battles, end-game saves and late-game AI turns. A fast modern 6-core will help more than a GPU upgrade.

Entry-level hardware target. A GTX 1650 or RX 6500 XT reaches 60 FPS at 1080p Medium in Surviving the Aftermath; an RTX 4060 comfortably sustains 1440p Ultra. 4K Ultra 60 FPS needs an RTX 4070 or better.

Storyline

Build and manage a colony of survivors after a world-ending event. Construct more than 61 unique buildings to handle everything from resource collection and farming to exploration and security. Explore a vast procedurally generated world featuring six different biomes filled with resources, wildlife, rival societies and more. Each environment has different conditions that affect your colony’s survival. Stay vigilant: Natural disasters, dangerous animals, and bandits will put your survivors to the test. Recruit over 80 unique Specialists, each with their own skills and motivations, to manage your colony’s resources and production. Send them beyond the Gate on scientific missions, scavenger runs, and to fight bandits. Life in the aftermath requires you to make moral choices. You may not be able to control everything in your colony, but how you respond to situations and emergent events will shape the character of your new civilization. Every decision can have dire consequences on your colony’s survival. Your reputation with other societies will affect your ability to trade and can even affect your relationship with their leaders. Colonists have a mind of their own and will react to your choices. Fortify your gates and protect your colony from rampaging animals and deadly bandits. Enemies who breach the gate will pour into your colony, wreaking havoc on everything in their wake. Take command of your specialists and drive the invaders back.
