About
In 2023, "The Last Spell" delivers a unique blend of tactical RPG and rogue-lite mechanics that stands out in the indie gaming scene. Players must defend humanity's last bastion against relentless monsters, utilizing a squad of heroes to battle at night while focusing on city defense and rebuilding during the day. The game's engaging mix of strategy, action, and compelling gameplay makes it an intriguing choice for fans of the genre.
When considering performance, "The Last Spell" is relatively accessible, requiring an entry-level GPU with a minimum score of around 1759 and a CPU score of approximately 3007. Players with at least 4 GB of RAM can enjoy the game smoothly, but to achieve stable frame rates and impressive FPS, investing in a mid-range GPU, such as an NVIDIA GTX 1050 or AMD Radeon RX 560, is recommended. This will allow you to adjust graphics settings for optimal performance without compromising the visual experience.
Given its solid rating of 78/100, "The Last Spell" is worth playing for those who enjoy tactical RPGs and strategic gameplay. With its captivating mechanics and engaging storyline, this game provides an enjoyable experience for both casual and seasoned gamers alike.
Performance profile
March 2023 release. As a current-generation title, The Last Spell pushes modern hardware — expect to need an RTX 40-series or RX 7000-series GPU to enjoy it at native 4K Ultra without leaning on upscaling.
As a strategy title, The Last Spell is typically CPU-bound rather than GPU-bound — single-thread CPU performance dictates framerate during large-scale battles, end-game saves and late-game AI turns. A fast modern 6-core will help more than a GPU upgrade.
Extremely light — The Last Spell runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.
Storyline
It happened. The Schools of Magic of the known world – driven by an insane power craving competition – finally pushed the big red button. We don’t really remember who did what exactly, but the effects were felt everywhere, instantly. A plain and definitive annihilation of 95% of living things in a joyful purple explosion of pure magic. Cities were crumbling, littered with oozing corpses. The air changed too. It became saturated with a more or less compact mist, the only thing that was left from the string of explosions caused by the madness of the mages. Of course, this mist, even if displaying nice and vivid colors, caused death. And sometimes worse. They say that the curious and the fool alike who lived in mist-infested areas came out of there transformed in bloodthirsty monstruosities. After the confusion, came the time of action. Most of the surviving beings succombed to a cosy insanity, blaming and killing each other. Others decided to fight until the very end. They naturally gathered in places where the mist was less thick and tried to keep some cities afloat. The survivors understood quite rapidly the infernal cycle which was now their daily routine. Days were quiet and peaceful. They could take time to organize themselves, heal their wounds and search the surroundings for anything useful. But the nights… The mist thickened and from their bowels unleashes hordes of mutated monsters, craving for blood and magic. So now they have to repel them, until dawn. Stand strong, at all costs. And above all, keep them from destroying our walls, last remnants of their glorious past. And protect those freaking mages. They say they have a plan.
