About
The Surge 2 is a tactical action RPG released in 2019 that expands significantly on its predecessor with a larger, more detailed city environment and refined combat mechanics. The game emphasizes brutal, strategic limb-targeting combat with expanded customization options, making it a solid choice for players who enjoy methodical action gameplay over fast-paced combat. Its improved engine and ambitious level design set it apart in the action RPG genre.
Running The Surge 2 requires modest hardware by modern standards. The minimum GPU requirement sits around entry-level performance tier with a benchmark score of approximately 5352, while the CPU needs a score near 5127 to maintain playable framerates. With 8 GB of RAM as the baseline, most mid-range gaming PCs from the last several years can handle this title comfortably, though hitting 60 FPS at higher graphics settings benefits from stepping up to mid-range GPU hardware like an RTX 2060 or equivalent.
The Surge 2 earned a respectable 75/100 rating and deserves consideration if you enjoy challenging action RPGs with tactical depth. Its approachable performance requirements make it an excellent benchmark title for testing mid-range PC gaming setups.
Performance profile
September 2019 release. The Surge 2 was built around the GTX 10-series / RX Vega era. Current-gen mid-range cards (RTX 4060 / RX 7600) are overkill at 1080p and handle 1440p Ultra comfortably.
RPGs like The Surge 2 stress VRAM during long sessions — texture streaming, mods and open-world traversal inflate memory use over time. 8 GB VRAM is a practical floor; 12 GB+ is worth the headroom at 1440p and above.
Entry-level hardware target. A GTX 1650 or RX 6500 XT reaches 60 FPS at 1080p Medium in The Surge 2; an RTX 4060 comfortably sustains 1440p Ultra. 4K Ultra 60 FPS needs an RTX 4070 or better.
