About
UFO: Aftershock, released in 2005, is a tactical strategy RPG that captures the essence of classic X-COM games while introducing a post-apocalyptic horror twist. Set in the year 2054, players engage in real-time combat with pause mechanics, offering a unique blend of tactical decision-making and action. This engaging game challenges players to strategize and adapt, making noteworthy contributions to the genre.
In terms of PC performance, UFO: Aftershock is quite accessible, requiring only an entry-level GPU with a minimum score of around 25 for smooth gameplay. With just 1 GB of RAM, it can easily run on modest hardware. Players can expect satisfactory FPS while utilizing lower graphics settings, making it suitable for a wide range of systems, including older machines or budget builds. Focus on optimizing your GPU choice to balance visual quality and performance for the best experience.
Given its rating of 70/100, UFO: Aftershock is a solid choice for fans of tactical strategy games who appreciate the genre’s roots. While it may not reach the heights of its predecessors, its engaging gameplay and unique mechanics offer ample entertainment for those willing to explore its eerie world.
Performance profile
Released in October 2005, UFO: Aftershock comes from the DirectX 9 era. Even the cheapest modern discrete GPU crushes it at maxed-out settings; the only real bottleneck today is CPU single-thread speed on older titles that were never multi-threaded.
As a strategy title, UFO: Aftershock is typically CPU-bound rather than GPU-bound — single-thread CPU performance dictates framerate during large-scale battles, end-game saves and late-game AI turns. A fast modern 6-core will help more than a GPU upgrade.
Extremely light — UFO: Aftershock runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.
Storyline

This Laputa is equipped with a landing pod to Earth, rumored to be long lost. Now you lead the remaining survivors of the Laputa and re-establish contact with Earth and the mysteries within.
