About
XCOM 2 is a turn-based tactical strategy game released in 2016 that serves as the sequel to the acclaimed XCOM: Enemy Unknown. The game puts you in command of a global resistance fighting to reclaim Earth from alien occupation, blending strategic base management with intense tactical combat scenarios. Its 83/100 rating reflects the compelling gameplay that made the franchise a standout in the strategy genre.
XCOM 2 is notably accessible from a performance perspective, requiring only entry-level GPU hardware to run smoothly. With a minimum GPU score around 1348, the game runs well on older or budget graphics cards, making it an excellent benchmark title for testing lower-end systems. You can expect solid FPS performance and flexibility with graphics settings across a wide range of hardware, from modest integrated graphics to high-end GPUs, with minimal performance concerns at 1080p resolution.
If you enjoy strategic gameplay with depth and replayability, XCOM 2 is absolutely worth playing. The turn-based combat and branching mission design offer substantial content that rewards thoughtful decision-making rather than quick reflexes.
Performance profile
Released in February 2016, XCOM 2 sits in the DirectX 11 generation. Comfortable on any modern mid-range GPU at 1440p; even an RTX 3050 or RX 6600 typically delivers 4K60 at High settings.
As a strategy title, XCOM 2 is typically CPU-bound rather than GPU-bound — single-thread CPU performance dictates framerate during large-scale battles, end-game saves and late-game AI turns. A fast modern 6-core will help more than a GPU upgrade.
Extremely light — XCOM 2 runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.
Storyline
Twenty years have passed since world leaders offered an unconditional surrender to alien forces and XCOM, the planet's last line of defense, was left decimated and scattered. Now the aliens rule Earth, building shining cities that promise a brilliant future for humanity on the surface, while concealing a sinister agenda below and eliminating all who dissent from their new order.Only those who live at the edges of the world have a margin of freedom. Here, a force gathers once again to stand up for humanity. Always on the run, the remnant XCOM forces must find a way to rise from the ashes, expose the insidious truth behind the occupation, and eliminate the alien threat once and for all.
