About
Red Dead Redemption 2 is an epic action-adventure game released in 2018 that follows outlaw Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang's desperate flight across America during the dawn of the modern age. Rockstar's masterpiece is celebrated for its immersive open-world storytelling, cinematic presentation, and incredible attention to detail, earning a stellar 93/100 rating.
The game is genuinely demanding and rewards high-end hardware with stunning visuals. You'll need at least an entry-level GPU with a benchmark score around 4765 and a CPU scoring 4142 to meet minimum requirements, plus 8 GB of RAM. However, pushing this game beyond 60 FPS at higher graphics settings requires significantly more powerful components. For a smooth experience at 1440p with quality settings, aim for a mid-to-high tier GPU; 4K gaming demands top-tier hardware to maintain playable FPS counts.
If you appreciate cinematic storytelling and open-world exploration, Red Dead Redemption 2 is absolutely worth playing. Its narrative depth and visual fidelity make it a benchmark title that showcases what modern gaming can achieve.
Performance profile
October 2018 release. Red Dead Redemption 2 was built around the GTX 10-series / RX Vega era. Current-gen mid-range cards (RTX 4060 / RX 7600) are overkill at 1080p and handle 1440p Ultra comfortably.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is a narrative-driven experience — a rock-solid 60 FPS is plenty. Prioritise resolution and image quality (AA, anisotropic filtering) over chasing high-refresh framerates.
Entry-level hardware target. A GTX 1650 or RX 6500 XT reaches 60 FPS at 1080p Medium in Red Dead Redemption 2; an RTX 4060 comfortably sustains 1440p Ultra. 4K Ultra 60 FPS needs an RTX 4070 or better.
Storyline
America, 1899. The end of the wild west era has begun as lawmen hunt down the last remaining outlaw gangs. Those who will not surrender or succumb are killed. After a robbery goes badly wrong in the western town of Blackwater, Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang are forced to flee. With federal agents and the best bounty hunters in the nation massing on their heels, the gang must rob, steal and fight their way across the rugged heartland of America in order to survive. As deepening internal divisions threaten to tear the gang apart, Arthur must make a choice between his own ideals and loyalty to the gang who raised him.
