About

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind - Game of the Year Edition, released in 2003, is a landmark title in the adventure and role-playing game genres. This epic, open-ended single-player RPG offers players the freedom to create and develop any character they can imagine while embarking on a journey to uncover the mystery behind an evil blight afflicting the land. With its stunning 3D graphics and vast world to explore, Morrowind remains notable for its deep lore and player-driven narrative.

In terms of PC performance, Morrowind is accessible on a range of hardware but does benefit from a decent setup to achieve smooth gameplay. To run the game well, a minimum GPU with a score around 1599 is recommended, while a minimum CPU score of approximately 13869 is essential. Those looking for solid frame rates should consider entry-level to mid-tier GPUs, and with 16 GB of RAM, gamers can expect a satisfying FPS experience without significant lag even at higher graphics settings.

If you appreciate classic RPGs and enjoy immersive storytelling, Morrowind is definitely worth playing despite its 78/100 rating. Its ability to allow player choice and exploration creates a unique gaming experience that is still celebrated in the gaming community today.

Performance profile

Released in October 2003, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind - Game of the Year Edition comes from the DirectX 9 era. Even the cheapest modern discrete GPU crushes it at maxed-out settings; the only real bottleneck today is CPU single-thread speed on older titles that were never multi-threaded.

RPGs like The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind - Game of the Year Edition stress VRAM during long sessions — texture streaming, mods and open-world traversal inflate memory use over time. 8 GB VRAM is a practical floor; 12 GB+ is worth the headroom at 1440p and above.

Extremely light — The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind - Game of the Year Edition runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.

Storyline

In Tribunal, you journey to the capital city of Morrowind, called Mournhold, to meet the other two god-kings of Morrowind, Almalexia and Sotha Sil. Your journey will lead you to the Clockwork City of Sotha Sil and massive, epic-sized dungeons, where strange and deadly creatures await you, including goblins, lich lords, and the mysterious Fabricants. Bloodmoon takes you to the frozen Island of Solstheim where you'll experience snow, blizzards, and new creatures, including frost trolls, ice minions, and wolves... just to name a few. You'll have a choice of stories to follow and have the opportunity to defend the colony, take control over how the colony is built up, and eliminate the werewolves. Or, you can decide to join the werewolves and become one of them, opening up a whole new style of gameplay.
