About
Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth (2016) is the dramatic conclusion to an epic SRPG saga that combines strategy battles with a rich narrative experience. This adventure-RPG features a colorful cast of characters, exciting tactical combat, and an acclaimed original soundtrack as it brings the journey of Haku to its climactic finale. The game delivers a compelling story-driven experience that appeals to fans of strategy RPGs and visual novel-style adventures.
The good news for most gamers is that Mask of Truth is highly accessible from a performance standpoint. With a minimum GPU requirement around entry-level specifications, the game runs smoothly on modest hardware and won't demand cutting-edge components. Even budget GPUs can achieve strong FPS performance at standard settings, making it an excellent choice if you're benchmarking older or mid-range systems. You can expect solid frame rates across various graphics settings without needing high-end GPU power.
With a 90/100 rating, Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth is absolutely worth playing if you enjoy story-heavy SRPGs and character-driven narratives. Its low performance requirements mean you can experience this acclaimed conclusion without worrying about whether your PC can handle it.
Performance profile
Released in September 2016, Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth sits in the DirectX 11 generation. Comfortable on any modern mid-range GPU at 1440p; even an RTX 3050 or RX 6600 typically delivers 4K60 at High settings.
As a strategy title, Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth is typically CPU-bound rather than GPU-bound — single-thread CPU performance dictates framerate during large-scale battles, end-game saves and late-game AI turns. A fast modern 6-core will help more than a GPU upgrade.
Extremely light — Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.
Storyline
"...I leave Her Highness... in your hads." "Nekone, live on... and find happiness." With these final words, Oshtor's soul finally found peace... leaving Haku entrusted with his sister and the princess. For the sake of his friends, and to fulfill his promise, Haku casts aside the name he was given... and dons his fallen friend's mask, choosing to live on as Oshtor. Armed with his wits and the power of Oshtor's name, Haku faces a battle more dire than any before. Nekone steels herself to support Haku through whatever comes, suppressing the pain of her brother's death. Thrier friends mourn the loss of two dear comrades: Haku, who they believe dead, and Kuon, who left them for her homeland. It is here, on the cusp of a new conflict, where we return to this land. The flames of war are about to consume Ennakamuy... and soon, all of Yamato.
