About

Utawarerumono: Prelude to the Fallen is a 2018 remake that blends visual novel storytelling with tactical RPG combat. The game features remastered artwork alongside fully 3D battle sections, following an amnesiac protagonist raised by a tribe of beastfolk in a strange world. It combines adventure, strategy, and simulation elements into a narrative-driven experience that spans multiple chapters.

This is an accessible title for most gaming PCs, requiring only entry-level GPU performance to run smoothly. You'll need a minimum of 8GB RAM and a GPU with a benchmark score around 303 or higher to achieve consistent framerates. Even modest graphics cards can deliver solid FPS in both visual novel sequences and 3D battles, making it easy to benchmark on older or budget hardware without demanding high-end components.

With a 71/100 rating, Utawarerumono offers compelling storytelling for fans of tactical RPGs and visual novels, though it may not appeal to action-focused gamers. If you enjoy character-driven narratives with strategic turn-based combat, it's worth checking performance benchmarks on your system.

Performance profile

April 2018 release. Utawarerumono: Prelude to the Fallen was built around the GTX 10-series / RX Vega era. Current-gen mid-range cards (RTX 4060 / RX 7600) are overkill at 1080p and handle 1440p Ultra comfortably.

As a strategy title, Utawarerumono: Prelude to the Fallen is typically CPU-bound rather than GPU-bound — single-thread CPU performance dictates framerate during large-scale battles, end-game saves and late-game AI turns. A fast modern 6-core will help more than a GPU upgrade.

Extremely light — Utawarerumono: Prelude to the Fallen runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.

Storyline

In a certain land in a certain world, many tribes of people have beast-like ears and tails. They formed their own settlements and lived rural lives long before nations began to take shape. Yamayura Village was located on the northeastern outskirts of one such nation. There, a young girl named Eruruu carried a young man, who was on the brink of death, back to her village. Though he was gravely injured, her family was able to nurse him back to health. However, he lost all of his memories. Needing something to call him, Eruruu's grandmother named him Hakuowlo. After recovering, he quickly adapted to life in the village. While struggling with the mysteries of his past, he used his knowledge to help the village prosper. Perhaps thanks to his kind personality and diligent work ethic, everyone around him began to depend on "Hakuowlo." Before long, it was time for the harvest, which—thanks to everyone's hard work—was unexpectedly bountiful. Rumors of their success reached the ears of the feudal lord, who sent troops to Yamayura to seize the fruits of their labor. A single incident on the outskirts of a rural land served as the prelude to a conflict that would reverberate across the entire world...
