About

Atomine, released in 2017, is a unique twin-stick procedural shooter rogue-lite that immerses players in a minimalist virtual world. This game stands out not only for its engaging gameplay but also for its thought-provoking narrative, which recounts the real events of Stuxnet, the first computer virus weapon. Players must clear each level of enemies to unlock the portal to the next area, providing a mix of strategy and rapid action that keeps the experience fresh.

In terms of PC performance, Atomine is quite accessible, requiring only an entry-level GPU with a minimum score of around 824 to run smoothly. With a minimum RAM requirement of 8 GB, players can expect decent FPS even on lower-end hardware. However, upgrading to more capable GPUs will enhance visual fidelity and enable higher graphics settings, leading to an overall better gaming experience.

While Atomine has a mixed rating of 60/100, it remains an intriguing choice for fans of indie games and action genres alike. If you enjoy compact gaming sessions with a unique narrative twist, this title certainly warrants a try despite its average score.

Performance profile

May 2017 release. Atomine was built around the GTX 10-series / RX Vega era. Current-gen mid-range cards (RTX 4060 / RX 7600) are overkill at 1080p and handle 1440p Ultra comfortably.

Action titles like Atomine reward high framerates for visual clarity during combat. A mid-range modern GPU at 1440p 60–120 FPS is the practical sweet spot; VRR (G-Sync/FreeSync) smooths out drops during heavy effects.

Extremely light — Atomine runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.

Storyline

In 2011, Sergey Ulasen, discovered STUXNET, a malicious computer worm, initially spreaded via Microsoft Windows, and targeted Siemens industrial control systems, defined as a sleeping threat, waiting for a trigger to start its activation. STUXNET is the first discovered malware that spies on and subverts industrial systems, and the first to include a programmable logic controller (PLC) rootkit. The worm has been founded infecting especially nuclear power plants and oil drilling systems. ATOMINE, like STUXNET, is a virus who needs to get stronger in order to reach and eventually infect and compile itself into the target source code. The electronic voice in the background and many element on screen, tell to the player what's the target of the run.
