About

Bramble: The Mountain King is a 2023 indie adventure game that immerses players in a dark, Nordic-inspired world filled with grotesque creatures and environmental puzzles. You'll explore a twisted landscape while attempting to rescue your sister, navigating between breathtaking scenery and horrifying encounters where nothing is quite as it seems. The game's atmospheric storytelling and unique aesthetic have earned it an 80/100 rating from critics.

This indie title is quite accessible from a hardware perspective, requiring only entry-level GPU performance around the 3902 benchmark score range and a modest 4GB of RAM. Most modern gaming systems will achieve solid FPS at standard graphics settings, making it an excellent choice if you're benchmarking older or budget-conscious hardware. The performance demands are low enough that even integrated graphics on entry-level CPUs scoring around 3195 can handle the game reasonably well.

If you enjoy atmospheric adventures with dark storytelling and don't mind indie production values, Bramble is worth experiencing. The combination of Nordic-inspired horror and accessible performance requirements makes it a compelling recommendation for both casual and performance-focused PC gamers.

Performance profile

April 2023 release. As a current-generation title, Bramble: The Mountain King pushes modern hardware — expect to need an RTX 40-series or RX 7000-series GPU to enjoy it at native 4K Ultra without leaning on upscaling.

Bramble: The Mountain King is a narrative-driven experience — a rock-solid 60 FPS is plenty. Prioritise resolution and image quality (AA, anisotropic filtering) over chasing high-refresh framerates.

Entry-level hardware target. A GTX 1650 or RX 6500 XT reaches 60 FPS at 1080p Medium in Bramble: The Mountain King; an RTX 4060 comfortably sustains 1440p Ultra. 4K Ultra 60 FPS needs an RTX 4070 or better.

Storyline

A shy boy and his adventurous, older sister sneak out from their home at night and wander deep into a nearby forest. As they explore an old ancient ruin, the ground suddenly collapses, and they tumble down through a sinkhole to the lost and magical world of Bramble. Together, they explore Bramble, and befriend curious and strange spirits. However, not all of the creatures that they meet are friendly. The siblings are taken by surprise as a huge troll traps them. The troll abducts the sister, leaving the younger brother lost in despair. Without his older sister and role model, the shy boy is lost. He needs to find strength inside of him and grow up fast in order to face all the horror and monsters ahead of him. When he embarks on this journey to reunite with his sister, he also unravels a dark curse that has sickened the world. He soon realizes that something dangerous is lurking in the shadows below the mountains.
