About
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 (2014) is an action-adventure game that continues the reimagined Lords of Shadow saga with a darker, more cinematic approach to the classic franchise. Developed by MercurySteam, this 35th Castlevania installment splits its story between medieval and modern settings, delivering intense combat encounters and exploration across both time periods. The game emphasizes melee-focused action gameplay with supernatural abilities, making it a notable departure from traditional Castlevania titles.
Performance-wise, Lords of Shadow 2 is relatively accessible by modern standards, requiring just 2 GB of RAM at minimum. You can expect solid 60+ FPS on mid-range GPUs like the GTX 1060 or RX 580 at 1080p with high graphics settings, while older or budget cards can still achieve playable performance by adjusting graphics options down. The game scales reasonably well across different hardware tiers, so benchmarking reveals that even entry-level GPUs can handle decent frame rates at lower settings.
With a 73/100 rating, Lords of Shadow 2 delivers an engaging action-adventure experience for fans of the genre, though it received mixed critical reception. If you enjoy cinematic combat and supernatural storytelling, it's worth trying, especially since it runs smoothly on modest hardware.
Performance profile
Released in February 2014, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 sits in the DirectX 11 generation. Comfortable on any modern mid-range GPU at 1440p; even an RTX 3050 or RX 6600 typically delivers 4K60 at High settings.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is a narrative-driven experience — a rock-solid 60 FPS is plenty. Prioritise resolution and image quality (AA, anisotropic filtering) over chasing high-refresh framerates.
Extremely light — Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.
Storyline
Dracula (Gabriel) awakens many years after the events of the previous Lords of Shadow title. He has been warned by Zobek of the return of Satan and sets out to regain his powers so that he may face Satan once again. The key to him regaining his power lies in his castle. However, the famed Belmont clan and his son Alucard seek his ultimate destruction.
