About

Deadlight is a 2012 cinematic survival platformer that blends action and adventure gameplay with a compelling post-apocalyptic narrative. You play as Randall Wayne, navigating the devastated streets of Seattle during an 1980s extinction event, solving puzzles and overcoming environmental obstacles while searching for your family. The game's hand-drawn art style and atmospheric presentation make it visually distinctive despite its indie origins.

Deadlight is a lightweight title that runs smoothly on modest hardware, making it excellent for benchmarking on older or budget systems. With only 2 GB of minimum RAM required, even integrated GPUs from the last decade can deliver solid FPS performance at high settings. Most modern GPUs will easily achieve 60+ FPS across all graphics configurations, so this isn't demanding enough to stress-test newer hardware, but it's ideal for testing baseline performance on lower-tier systems.

With a respectable 69/100 rating, Deadlight offers an engaging experience for fans of indie platformers and narrative-driven adventures. If you appreciate atmospheric storytelling and cinematic presentation over cutting-edge visuals, it's worth your time.

Performance profile

August 2012 release. Deadlight targets mid-2000s-to-early-2010s hardware — any modern entry-level GPU (GTX 1650 tier or newer integrated graphics) handles it at 1080p Ultra without breaking a sweat.

Deadlight is a narrative-driven experience — a rock-solid 60 FPS is plenty. Prioritise resolution and image quality (AA, anisotropic filtering) over chasing high-refresh framerates.

Extremely light — Deadlight runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.

Storyline

The story of the game takes place in 1986 in Seattle after the decimation of society following the outbreak of a virus that reanimates the dead. Randall Wayne is a survivor of the event and has since been separated from his family of his wife, Shannon, and daughter Lydia. Randall had joined a pack of survivors formed of his friend Ben, an officer named Sam and two sisters, Stella and Karla. Randall is seen killing Karla in the beginning of the game due to her being bitten and infected. When the others return and confront him, "Shadows", the term for the undead, struggle to get inside their room. The others are able to get away through a vent but Randall gets stuck in the room and tells them to get to a safe area aptly called the "Safe Point". Randall is able to escape the area alive and begin traversing the dilapidated Seattle world.
