About
F.E.A.R. 3, released in 2011, is an action-packed sequel to F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin and the third installment in the acclaimed series. One of its standout features is the option to play the campaign either in single-player mode or with a friend through online or offline co-op. The game continues the franchise’s legacy of blending horror elements with intense shooter gameplay, providing players with a thrilling and immersive experience.
In terms of PC performance, F.E.A.R. 3 is designed to be fairly accessible, featuring minimum GPU requirements of an entry-level GPU with a score of around 403. Players can expect smooth gameplay and solid FPS on mid-range hardware, making it a great choice for those with systems that meet or exceed the minimum specs, including 2 GB of RAM. For optimal performance, consider a GPU from the mid-tier range, which can enhance graphics settings and deliver a more immersive experience.
With a rating of 68/100, while F.E.A.R. 3 may not reach the heights of its predecessors, it still offers enjoyable gameplay for fans of the genre. If you're a fan of action games that incorporate horror elements, the co-op capabilities and engaging features make it worth a try, especially if you're looking for a title that runs well on modest hardware.
Performance profile
June 2011 release. F.E.A.R. 3 targets mid-2000s-to-early-2010s hardware — any modern entry-level GPU (GTX 1650 tier or newer integrated graphics) handles it at 1080p Ultra without breaking a sweat.
Action titles like F.E.A.R. 3 reward high framerates for visual clarity during combat. A mid-range modern GPU at 1440p 60–120 FPS is the practical sweet spot; VRR (G-Sync/FreeSync) smooths out drops during heavy effects.
Extremely light — F.E.A.R. 3 runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.
Storyline
The game takes place nine months after the conclusion of F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin, with Alma Wade's pregnancy nearing its end. When a resurrected Paxton Fettel rescues Point Man from captivity by Armacham Technology Corporation in a Brazilian prison, the two distrustful brothers head back to Fairport. Point Man plans to save the still-missing Jin Sun-Kwon and prevent Alma giving birth. Fettel, however, has an entirely different motive. Meanwhile, a new threat emerges, one of which even Alma herself is terrified.
