About

Hunt: Showdown 1896 is a tactical PvPvE first-person shooter where you hunt corrupted monsters in atmospheric, historical settings while competing against other players. Released in 2019, this action game blends cooperative and competitive gameplay as you risk everything to survive encounters with twisted creatures and desperate rivals in a high-stakes environment. The game has earned a solid 75/100 rating for its unique blend of horror and competitive hunting mechanics.

The game is reasonably accessible for mid-range gaming PCs, though performance depends on your graphics settings and resolution targets. You'll need at least an entry-level GPU with a benchmark score around 9072 and a CPU scoring approximately 8002 to meet minimum requirements, plus 8 GB of RAM. To achieve smooth 60+ FPS at 1080p with decent graphics settings, most players will want a mid-range GPU that can handle both the detailed environments and active gunplay without performance dips.

Hunt: Showdown 1896 is worth playing if you enjoy tactical shooters with a horror atmosphere and don't mind the pressure of high-stakes PvPvE encounters. Its unique blend of gameplay styles and strong atmospheric design make it a standout title for players seeking something different from traditional multiplayer shooters.

Performance profile

August 2019 release. Hunt: Showdown 1896 was built around the GTX 10-series / RX Vega era. Current-gen mid-range cards (RTX 4060 / RX 7600) are overkill at 1080p and handle 1440p Ultra comfortably.

Action titles like Hunt: Showdown 1896 reward high framerates for visual clarity during combat. A mid-range modern GPU at 1440p 60–120 FPS is the practical sweet spot; VRR (G-Sync/FreeSync) smooths out drops during heavy effects.

Entry-level hardware target. A GTX 1650 or RX 6500 XT reaches 60 FPS at 1080p Medium in Hunt: Showdown 1896; an RTX 4060 comfortably sustains 1440p Ultra. 4K Ultra 60 FPS needs an RTX 4070 or better.

Storyline

The year is 1896, and you are a Hunter tasked with eliminating the savage, nightmarish monsters that have infested the Louisiana Bayou. Play alone or in teams of two or three, as you search for clues to help you track your target and compete against other Hunters who are after the same reward. Kill and banish your target, collect the bounty, and then get ready for the showdown; once the bounty is in your hands every other Hunter on the map will be after your prize. Show no mercy as you fight through a dark, ruthless world with brutal, period-inspired weapons, as you level up, unlock gear, and collect experience and gold for your Bloodline.
