About

"Long Night," released in 2014, is a third-person survival-horror adventure game that seeks to capture the essence of classic games from the 90s and early 2000s. Developed by Trickster Face, it emphasizes atmosphere and tension over action, opting for lurking fears instead of chaotic gunfights or giant monsters. This nostalgic approach makes it notable in the indie gaming scene, appealing to those who appreciate a slower-paced, immersive experience.

When it comes to PC performance, "Long Night" is quite accessible, requiring only an entry-level GPU with a minimum score of around 141 to run smoothly. As for RAM, you’ll need at least 2 GB for optimal performance. Players can expect decent FPS on basic hardware, making it an enticing option for gamers looking to play without investing in high-end components. Lower graphics settings should yield solid frame rates, facilitating an enjoyable atmosphere for exploration and survival.

Given its rating of 50/100 and its unique approach to horror storytelling, "Long Night" may not be for everyone, especially those seeking more action-oriented gameplay. However, fans of the genre and the retro vibe might find it worth a play, particularly if they appreciate atmospheric and narrative-driven experiences in gaming.

Performance profile

Released in June 2014, Long Night sits in the DirectX 11 generation. Comfortable on any modern mid-range GPU at 1440p; even an RTX 3050 or RX 6600 typically delivers 4K60 at High settings.

Long Night is a narrative-driven experience — a rock-solid 60 FPS is plenty. Prioritise resolution and image quality (AA, anisotropic filtering) over chasing high-refresh framerates.

Extremely light — Long Night runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.

Storyline

This black tale takes place in an American holiday camp next to a forest, at the end of a summer in the nineties. The heroes are a group of four teenage friends, accustomed to meet there every year. Spending their last evening together telling horror stories for fun, they find themselves plunged into a nightmare, bringing their most secret anguishes to life, tormenting them. All of a sudden everyone is on his own. During the night David will try to find and help his friends, but doing so, he will have to face worse than the fear that pursues him.
