About
Max: The Curse of Brotherhood is a 2013 physics-based puzzle platformer set in a vibrant 2.5D environment with a dynamic cinematic camera. The adventure spans seven chapters across 20 interconnected levels that form one continuous journey, and introduces a creative gameplay mechanic through a magic marker that players use to solve puzzles in multiple ways. The combination of platforming challenges and inventive puzzle design makes this title stand out in the adventure genre.
This is an accessible benchmark title that runs smoothly on modest hardware, requiring only an entry-level GPU with a score around 303 to meet minimum specifications. You'll achieve solid FPS performance on older graphics cards, making it an excellent choice for testing budget GPU configurations or older systems. With just 2 GB of RAM required, Max runs well at various graphics settings on lightweight rigs, and most modern GPUs will handle it comfortably at high framerates.
The game earned a 70/100 rating and offers creative puzzle-solving for players who enjoy adventure and platformer genres. If you appreciate thoughtful puzzle design with a cinematic presentation, Max: The Curse of Brotherhood remains worth exploring despite its age.
Performance profile
Released in December 2013, Max: The Curse of Brotherhood sits in the DirectX 11 generation. Comfortable on any modern mid-range GPU at 1440p; even an RTX 3050 or RX 6600 typically delivers 4K60 at High settings.
Max: The Curse of Brotherhood is a narrative-driven experience — a rock-solid 60 FPS is plenty. Prioritise resolution and image quality (AA, anisotropic filtering) over chasing high-refresh framerates.
Extremely light — Max: The Curse of Brotherhood runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.
Storyline
Max, the main protagonist of Max & the Magic Marker arrives home from school one day and finds his younger brother Felix playing in his room and smashing his beloved toys. Being annoyed by his little brother Max searches online on the search engine website “Giggle” for a way to get rid of Felix. He immediately stumbles upon a spell which promises to make his brother disappear. Reading the spell out loud opens up a mysterious portal from which a giant claw emerges and kidnaps his little brother Felix. Realizing the consequences of his actions, Max jumps without hesitation into the portal to rescue Felix and enters a magical and hostile world controlled by the evil lord Mustacho and his henchmen.
