About

Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee is a 2001 action-adventure game that expands the quirky Oddworld universe with dual-character gameplay. Players control both Abe and the new protagonist Munch, using creature communication and strategic commands to solve puzzles and navigate hostile environments. The game's unique blend of action, adventure, and strategy elements made it a standout title during its era, building on the foundation of previous Oddworld games.

Running Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee is straightforward on modern hardware due to its modest system requirements and age. The game demands only 1 GB RAM and runs smoothly on integrated graphics, making it accessible even on budget GPUs from the past decade. You can expect consistent 60+ FPS on nearly any dedicated graphics card when using standard graphics settings, making performance benchmarking relatively straightforward.

With a 66/100 rating, Munch's Oddysee offers a solid experience for fans of classic adventure games, though it's not universally acclaimed. If you enjoy quirky puzzle-driven adventures with strategic gameplay elements, it's worth trying out given how easily it runs on modern systems.

Performance profile

Released in November 2001, Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee comes from the DirectX 9 era. Even the cheapest modern discrete GPU crushes it at maxed-out settings; the only real bottleneck today is CPU single-thread speed on older titles that were never multi-threaded.

As a strategy title, Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee is typically CPU-bound rather than GPU-bound — single-thread CPU performance dictates framerate during large-scale battles, end-game saves and late-game AI turns. A fast modern 6-core will help more than a GPU upgrade.

Extremely light — Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.

Storyline

Munch is the last surviving Gabbit living on Oddworld after their poaching to the verge of extinction. And now the greedy, vile Vykkers Labs have big plans for their fortune and glory through his doom. Meanwhile, veteran Oddworld saviour and outlaw Abe learns he needs Munch's help to save his species from industrial atrocity and vice versa. In an all new 3D oriented world using familiar gameplay, travelling through military bases, factories and the natural world, the two must work together and succeed together to lead the oppressed natives to freedom, decommissioning local police forces and shutting down industrial pollution in order to return balance to Oddworld.
