About
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is a fighting game developed by Arc System Works and Atlus, releasing in 2013 as the sequel to Persona 4 Arena. This action-focused fighter brings the beloved Persona 4 cast to the arcade and home consoles with stylish combat mechanics and competitive gameplay. A notable improvement over its predecessor is the removal of region locking, making it more accessible to global players.
The game is highly accessible from a PC performance perspective, requiring only modest hardware to achieve smooth gameplay. You'll need at least an entry-level GPU with a benchmark score around 731 and a CPU score near 1194 to meet minimum requirements, along with 3GB of RAM. Even budget graphics cards will deliver high FPS and stable performance at standard settings, making this an ideal benchmark title for entry-level systems testing.
With a solid 79/100 rating, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is worth playing if you enjoy fighting games or the Persona franchise. The combination of accessible PC performance requirements and quality gameplay makes it a great addition to any fighting game enthusiast's library.
Performance profile
Released in November 2013, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax sits in the DirectX 11 generation. Comfortable on any modern mid-range GPU at 1440p; even an RTX 3050 or RX 6600 typically delivers 4K60 at High settings.
Action titles like Persona 4 Arena Ultimax reward high framerates for visual clarity during combat. A mid-range modern GPU at 1440p 60–120 FPS is the practical sweet spot; VRR (G-Sync/FreeSync) smooths out drops during heavy effects.
Extremely light — Persona 4 Arena Ultimax runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.
Storyline
The story is a continuation of the events depicted in Persona 4 Arena and begins the day after the previous game concludes, meaning Arena Ultimax is also set in May 2012. The Midnight Channel is back on the air and once again broadcasts a strange advertisement for another fighting tournament christened P-1 Climax, also known as Operation: World Destruction, that shows members of the Investigation Team and the Shadow Operatives in combat. Just moments after this, Inaba is subject to a power outage and is engulfed by a bizarre red fog. Furthermore, figures that look suspiciously like Mitsuru Kirijo, Aigis and Akihiko Sanada being crucified are shown on TV. While the Investigation Team attempts to figure out what's going on, Junpei Iori and Rise Kujikawa becomes trapped in the red fog, while Labrys, Ken Amada, Koromaru and Yukari Takeba ride on a helicopter to see the fog engulf Inaba.
