About

Pollen, released in 2016, is a first-person exploration game that immerses players in the mysterious world of Titan, Saturn's largest moon. With a focus on atmospheric storytelling and intriguing environments, Pollen draws inspiration from iconic science-fiction masterpieces like 2001: A Space Odyssey and Solaris. This indie title stands out in the action genre for its unique setting and the potential for life in a scientifically plausible context.

In terms of PC performance, Pollen demands a capable setup to deliver improved frames per second (FPS). The game is best run on a mid-range GPU with a minimum benchmark score of approximately 11,622, placing it in the realm of decent performance expectations. To ensure smooth gameplay while exploring Titan’s breathtaking landscapes, a system with at least 16 GB of RAM is essential, making it moderately demanding for gamers who want to maximize their graphics settings.

Ultimately, whether you should play Pollen depends on your interest in indie exploration games and how much weight you give to its 50/100 rating. If you enjoy atmospheric experiences and the thrill of exploring unknown worlds, this game could be worth a try, despite its mixed reviews.

Performance profile

Released in April 2016, Pollen sits in the DirectX 11 generation. Comfortable on any modern mid-range GPU at 1440p; even an RTX 3050 or RX 6600 typically delivers 4K60 at High settings.

Action titles like Pollen reward high framerates for visual clarity during combat. A mid-range modern GPU at 1440p 60–120 FPS is the practical sweet spot; VRR (G-Sync/FreeSync) smooths out drops during heavy effects.

Mid-range territory. An RTX 3060 or RX 6700 XT delivers 60 FPS at 1080p High in Pollen. For 1440p Ultra you'll want an RTX 4060 Ti / RX 7700 XT; 4K Ultra needs an RTX 4070 Ti or faster.

Storyline

After the failed assassination of President Kennedy, NASA combined forces with the Soviet space program. A permanent moonbase was established in the 70s and space technology kept booming throughout the decade as inventions such as anti-gravity allowed objects to be lifted cheaply into orbit. The famous moonbase became a tourist attraction in the 90s as commercial space flights continued to expand the frontier towards the outer solar system Rama Industries is one of the many organizations expanding the human frontier. Though encountering a disaster from time to time they push forward and search for new possibilities in space. One of the most interesting being the latest findings on the saturnian moon Titan, where the research of Station “M” has taken a spotlight. The five person research team has now been working on “M” for one year, expanding the base and making wonderous discoveries until two months ago when one of their technicians went missing in a work related accident and a replacement is needed.
