About
Return to Monkey Island (2022) is a point-and-click adventure game that marks the long-awaited return to the legendary Monkey Island series, developed by Ron Gilbert's Terrible Toybox in collaboration with Devolver Digital and Lucasfilm Games. This casual adventure title blends classic puzzle-solving with witty storytelling, appealing to both series veterans and new players discovering Guybrush Threepwood's exploits for the first time.
The game is highly accessible on modern PC hardware, requiring only an entry-level GPU with a benchmark score around 1700 to hit smooth FPS performance. With a minimum CPU requirement of approximately 2082 and just 8 GB RAM needed, Return to Monkey Island runs well on budget gaming systems and older mid-range builds. Most modern GPUs will handle this title comfortably at high graphics settings, making it an excellent choice for benchmark testing on entry-level hardware.
With an 81/100 rating, Return to Monkey Island offers a charming and satisfying adventure experience that shouldn't be missed by genre fans. If you enjoy classic point-and-click adventures or simply want a relaxed, story-driven game that won't stress your GPU, this is a solid addition to any library.
Performance profile
Released in September 2022, Return to Monkey Island targets RTX 20/30-series and RX 6000-era hardware. A current mid-range GPU (RTX 4060 Ti / RX 7700 XT) is the sweet spot for 1440p Ultra; 4K needs a high-end card.
Return to Monkey Island is a narrative-driven experience — a rock-solid 60 FPS is plenty. Prioritise resolution and image quality (AA, anisotropic filtering) over chasing high-refresh framerates.
Extremely light — Return to Monkey Island runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.
Storyline
It’s been many years since Guybrush Threepwood was last locked in a battle of wits with his nemesis, the zombie pirate LeChuck. His true love, Elaine Marley, has turned her focus away from governing and Guybrush himself is adrift and unfulfilled, having never found the Secret of Monkey Island. Hip, young pirate leaders led by Captain Madison have shuffled the old guard from power, Melee Island has taken a turn for the worse, and famed businessman Stan has been imprisoned for ‘marketing-related crimes’.
