About

Sentinels, released in 2017, combines action and strategy in an engaging indie experience. Players take on the roles of unique heroes—Sam, Kat, and Frank—tasked with defending against hordes of enemies. The game's notable feature is its tower defense mechanics, where players can deploy and upgrade automated towers, unleashing lethal abilities like meteors and acid attacks to turn the tide of battle.

When it comes to PC performance, Sentinels is quite accessible. With a minimum GPU requirement of around 1202, you can typically expect decent frame rates on entry-level graphics cards. Players can enjoy smooth gameplay if they stick to low to mid-range GPUs, making it feasible to target solid FPS even on modest hardware. Ensure you have at least 4 GB of RAM to optimize performance across various graphics settings.

Considering its 70/100 rating and engaging mix of action and strategy, Sentinels is worth trying for fans of the genre. Its blend of tower defense and proactive combat will likely appeal to those looking for a unique indie gaming experience without the need for high-end hardware.

Performance profile

February 2017 release. Sentinels was built around the GTX 10-series / RX Vega era. Current-gen mid-range cards (RTX 4060 / RX 7600) are overkill at 1080p and handle 1440p Ultra comfortably.

As a strategy title, Sentinels is typically CPU-bound rather than GPU-bound — single-thread CPU performance dictates framerate during large-scale battles, end-game saves and late-game AI turns. A fast modern 6-core will help more than a GPU upgrade.

Extremely light — Sentinels runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.

Storyline

History Sentinels is the first release from MindWalker Games, but they are definitely not new to the gaming world. The company was founded and helmed by Rob Elam, who has been coding since the ripe old age of 11 - he released his first game, OMF: 2097, when he was 24. Since then, he's worked on a variety of projects, most recently developing significant portions of movement, physics, and networking code in Planetside 2. Two years ago, Rob decided to leave the company and bring his latest video game concept to life. Features Fight alongside 3 war-torn commanders as they fight to protect their property (and the earth of course) from aliens hellbent on stealing an explosive mineral to exterminate the human race. Build your defensive web with a variety of automated turrets, then join the action. There are plenty of first person weapons to choose from - grenade launchers, lockon missiles, and machine guns, just to name a few. Customizable mods bring more destructive additions to the table; with options like force, phasing, and armor piercing, you can personalize your weapon and take the baddies down with grace. And with the mobile gun platform, you can travel across the board without ever leaving your gun - and smash enemies out of your way. With an ever-expanding roster of levels, face off against 4 powerful commanders, each with their own unique powers and buffs. From stealth to speed to heavy armor, you'll find yourself challenged every step of the way.
