About

Shadow of the Colossus (2018) is an enchanting adventure that takes players on a quest to defeat colossal creatures that tower over the environment. This game merges elements of adventure, platforming, and puzzle-solving, making it notable for its combination of immersive storytelling and breathtaking landscapes. Players must navigate the vast, ancient land while using skill and strategy to take down these majestic beings, each holding a key to a mysterious power of revival.

In terms of PC performance, Shadow of the Colossus is relatively accessible, requiring only an entry-level GPU with a minimum score of approximately 200 to run smoothly. With just 1 GB of RAM needed, many gamers can enjoy this visually stunning title while achieving decent FPS even on modest hardware configurations. For those looking to enhance graphics settings without sacrificing performance, targeting mid-range GPUs will provide an excellent balance of visuals and frame rates.

Given its impressive rating of 85/100 and its unique blend of genres, Shadow of the Colossus is highly recommended for fans of adventure and puzzle games. The emotional narrative, combined with engaging gameplay, makes it a worthwhile experience for any PC gamer looking to explore a massive world filled with wonder and challenge.

Performance profile

February 2018 release. Shadow of the Colossus was built around the GTX 10-series / RX Vega era. Current-gen mid-range cards (RTX 4060 / RX 7600) are overkill at 1080p and handle 1440p Ultra comfortably.

Shadow of the Colossus is a narrative-driven experience — a rock-solid 60 FPS is plenty. Prioritise resolution and image quality (AA, anisotropic filtering) over chasing high-refresh framerates.

Extremely light — Shadow of the Colossus runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.

Storyline

The story of Shadow of the Colossus begins as Wander enters the forbidden land, traveling across a long bridge on his horse, Agro. Unknown to the player, prior to entering, Wander had stolen an ancient sword, which is the only weapon capable of slaying the colossi. Led to the massive Shrine of Worship at the center of the region, Wander carries with him the body of a maiden named Mono. A moment later, several humanoid shadow creatures appear and approach Wander before he easily dismisses them with a wave of the ancient sword in his possession. After vanquishing the shadow creatures, the voice of the disembodied entity known as "Dormin" echoes from above, expressing surprise that Wander possesses the weapon. Wander requests that Dormin return Mono's soul to her body, which Dormin states may be possible on the condition that Wander can destroy the sixteen idols lining the temple's hall by using the ancient sword to kill each colossus the idols represent located throughout the land. Despite being warned by Dormin that he may have to pay a great price to revive Mono, Wander sets out to search the land for the colossi and destroy them.
