About
Smelter, released in 2021, is a unique blend of action, adventure, and real-time strategy that harks back to the nostalgic charm of 16-bit games. Players assume the role of Eve, accompanied by the enigmatic armor known as Smelter, as they traverse the vibrant Rumbly Lands. The game's engaging mechanics center around fortification building and strategic combat, setting it apart from traditional platformers and providing a fresh gaming experience.
For optimal performance in Smelter, players can expect to run the game smoothly with an entry-level GPU, providing an estimated FPS that suits a range of hardware setups. A minimum graphics card score of around 1997 is recommended, suggesting compatibility with budget-friendly GPUs. With just 4 GB of RAM required, Smelter offers impressive accessibility for both casual gamers and those looking to benchmark their system performance without needing high-end specifications.
If you're a fan of indie games that combine strategy and engaging storytelling, Smelter is well worth your time. Its unique gameplay and charming aesthetics have garnered positive reviews, making it an enjoyable choice for anyone looking to explore new genres.
Performance profile
Released in April 2021, Smelter targets RTX 20/30-series and RX 6000-era hardware. A current mid-range GPU (RTX 4060 Ti / RX 7700 XT) is the sweet spot for 1440p Ultra; 4K needs a high-end card.
As a strategy title, Smelter is typically CPU-bound rather than GPU-bound — single-thread CPU performance dictates framerate during large-scale battles, end-game saves and late-game AI turns. A fast modern 6-core will help more than a GPU upgrade.
Extremely light — Smelter runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.
Storyline
After the destruction of the Garden, Eve finds herself in an unfamiliar world and her beloved Adam is nowhere to be found. On her search for Adam, she encounters Smelter, an unusually over-confident, winged creature with the powerful ability to “Flootipoo” with others, giving them incredible powers. Offering his apparently “invaluable” assistance, Smelter flootipoos with Eve and they depart on a journey to the treacherous Rumbly Lands to expand Smelter’s territory, allowing them to reach further into the various domains to find out what happened to her Adam, hoping to find him in one piece and find a way back home.
