Streets of Rage 3, released in 1994, is a classic action beat 'em up that has captivated gamers with its intense gameplay and compelling storyline. Players step into the shoes of iconic characters as they battle against the nefarious crime boss Mr. X and his army of lifelike robots, all while navigating through the vibrant streets filled with danger and excitement. The engaging co-op mode adds to the fun, making it a notable title in the genre.

For PC gamers looking to benchmark Streets of Rage 3, the performance requirements are surprisingly accessible. This game can run smoothly even on entry-level hardware, requiring a minimum GPU score of around 600 and at least 2 GB of RAM. Players can expect smooth FPS performance on modest systems, and upgrading to a mid-range GPU will enhance graphics settings and provide an even better gaming experience without demanding extensive resources.

With a solid rating of 78/100, Streets of Rage 3 is a worthwhile play for fans of the action genre. Its nostalgic charm and engaging gameplay make it a great choice for both newcomers and seasoned gamers looking to relive a piece of gaming history.

Performance profile

Released in March 1994, Streets of Rage 3 predates modern GPU acceleration as we know it today. It runs effortlessly on virtually any current hardware, including integrated graphics and entry-level laptops — framerate is limited by the engine, not the GPU.

Action titles like Streets of Rage 3 reward high framerates for visual clarity during combat. A mid-range modern GPU at 1440p 60–120 FPS is the practical sweet spot; VRR (G-Sync/FreeSync) smooths out drops during heavy effects.

Extremely light — Streets of Rage 3 runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.

Storyline

Despite having been defeated twice, Mr. X is far from finished in his efforts to take control of the city. He has been laying low, using RoboCy Corporation as a front for the Syndicate Crime Organization's business activites. And he has now brought in a genius, if eccentric, roboticist, Dr. Dahm, to help him with his newest scheme: To replace key city officials with exact robot duplicates under his control, allowing him to run the entire city by remote control. To divert the police's attention, he has his men plant bombs around the city. However, one Robocy Corporation researcher, Dr. Gilbert Zan, digs a little too far into corporate files and finds the connection between Robocy Corp and the Syndicate. Due to his criminal record, he can't go to the police with this information, so instead, he goes to Blaze Fielding, and tells her that the Syndicate plans to capture and replace the Chief of Police. Blaze quickly sends word to her friends, Axel Stone and Adam Hunter, about what's going on. Axel quickly responds, but Adam has his obligations to the police force and can't come, though he sends his brother Eddie "Skate" Hunter on his behalf. Together, they will work together to stop the bombings and put a stop to the Syndicate once and for all!
