About

Sword of the Sea (2025) is an action-adventure game developed by Giant Squid, the team behind titles like Abzû and The Pathless. Set in a breathtaking desert landscape, players control a character named the Wraith, who explores ancient ruins while uncovering the secrets of a forgotten world. The game’s unique movement mechanics revolve around the "Hoversword," which blends surfing, skateboarding, and snowboarding, allowing for fluid and engaging traversal through its stunning environments.

In terms of PC performance, Sword of the Sea requires a mid-range GPU with a minimum benchmark score of around 13,507, coupled with a CPU score of at least 78 and 12 GB of RAM. This setup ensures a smooth gameplay experience, with the potential for higher FPS on more powerful systems. Players looking to enjoy the game at higher settings should consider GPUs from the mid-range tier upwards, as this will significantly enhance the overall graphics quality and performance.

With a rating of 76/100, Sword of the Sea offers an enjoyable experience for fans of the action-adventure genre, particularly those drawn to creative movement mechanics. If you appreciate a visually rich world and a unique traversal system, this title is worth experiencing.

Performance profile

August 2025 release. As a current-generation title, Sword of the Sea pushes modern hardware — expect to need an RTX 40-series or RX 7000-series GPU to enjoy it at native 4K Ultra without leaning on upscaling.

Sword of the Sea is a narrative-driven experience — a rock-solid 60 FPS is plenty. Prioritise resolution and image quality (AA, anisotropic filtering) over chasing high-refresh framerates.

High-end requirement. Sword of the Sea needs an RTX 4070 Ti or RX 7800 XT for comfortable 1440p 60 FPS at High settings. 4K Ultra 60 FPS is flagship territory — RTX 4080 Super / RX 7900 XTX minimum without upscaling.

Storyline

In a world where the terrain flows in waves, ride the Hoversword to speed over shifting seas of sand. It controls like a snowboard, skateboard, and hoverboard all in one. Build momentum to achieve great speeds and catch big air as you explore skatepark-like ruins, lost in the tides of the Necropolis of the Gods. The Hoversword embodies the feel of snowboarding and skating games, but in an entirely new context of adventure. You are the Wraith – resurrected in a desolate world and tasked with restoring life to it as you explore submerged ruins and the vibrant, varied cultures within. Surf through sinking tombs, mysterious shipwrecks, and petrified battlefields – and bring giant shoals of fish and creatures back in the process. But beware- this land is also home to massive leviathans that will stand in your way.
