About
The Croaker, released in 2023, is an engaging indie game that blends action, adventure, and strategy elements into a delightful experience. Players step into the shoes of Jeremy, who finds himself trapped in a simulation and must navigate through 50 campaign levels to escape. The core gameplay revolves around collecting apples, which serve multiple purposes, such as purchasing skins and power-ups, while also enabling players to unlock achievements and compete on leaderboards.
When considering PC performance, The Croaker is relatively accessible, running well on entry-level GPU configurations. With a minimum GPU requirement of around 300 points, gamers can expect solid FPS even on budget systems. For optimal performance and better graphics settings, a mid-tier GPU would enhance the gaming experience, allowing for higher frame rates and smoother gameplay, especially during more visually intense moments.
If you're a fan of casual and strategic indie games, The Croaker is definitely worth playing. Its charming gameplay, combined with a competitive edge through achievements and leaderboards, offers hours of entertainment while appealing to a diverse audience within the gaming community.
Performance profile
November 2023 release. As a current-generation title, The Croaker pushes modern hardware — expect to need an RTX 40-series or RX 7000-series GPU to enjoy it at native 4K Ultra without leaning on upscaling.
As a strategy title, The Croaker is typically CPU-bound rather than GPU-bound — single-thread CPU performance dictates framerate during large-scale battles, end-game saves and late-game AI turns. A fast modern 6-core will help more than a GPU upgrade.
Extremely light — The Croaker runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.
Storyline
Jeremy was looking for food one day when he stumbled into an apple forest. Little did he know, this apple forest was owned by Virtual Guy, a man who had extremely good knowledge with technology. Jeremy ended up falling asleep, and was woken up by an apple falling on his head. Virtual Guy quickly took advantage of this and placed jeremy inside a simulation via a portal that sucked him in. Virtual Guy would use this simulation as revenge against him for eating nearly all of his apples. After running through 18 different simulations, jeremy was randomly faced with a level that had no finish flag: instead, it appears as if the level was never finished. He fell through this hole in the simulation, taking him to the outer layers, of the simulation, then a sewer system. Through the sewer system, he managed to find a pothole that led him right into the City. Now, a few miles away from the city was a massive volcano that was a few hours away from erupting, so he traversed through the city and met a man named Sir Croakington. Sir Croakington is an inventor and salesman, and he created this heat protection suit for Jeremy to use so that he could escape. He then found a vent for the volcano which would allow him to escape the city. He traversed the underground magma chamber of the volcano, then eventually made it all the way up the actual conduit and throat of the volcano. Finally, he used the massive explosion of lava to escape far away from virtual guy.
