About

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is a classic action-adventure game released in 1998 for the Nintendo 64. The gameplay introduced revolutionary 3D exploration and puzzle-solving mechanics that defined the genre for years to come, featuring a blend of combat, exploration, and environmental challenges across a vast Hyrule landscape. Its influence on gaming cannot be overstated, earning a 92/100 rating and recognition as one of the greatest games ever made.

Since this is an N64 emulation title on PC, performance is highly accessible across modern hardware. Most mid-range GPUs can maintain 60+ FPS at standard resolution with high graphics settings, while even entry-level cards will deliver smooth 1080p gameplay. The game's relatively modest performance requirements mean you won't need high-end hardware to achieve excellent frame rates and stable performance during benchmark testing.

If you appreciate timeless adventure games and want to experience gaming history, Ocarina of Time absolutely deserves a place in your library. The engaging gameplay and artistic direction hold up remarkably well, making it an essential benchmark title for emulation enthusiasts.

Performance profile

Released in November 1998, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time predates modern GPU acceleration as we know it today. It runs effortlessly on virtually any current hardware, including integrated graphics and entry-level laptops — framerate is limited by the engine, not the GPU.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is a narrative-driven experience — a rock-solid 60 FPS is plenty. Prioritise resolution and image quality (AA, anisotropic filtering) over chasing high-refresh framerates.

Extremely light — The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.

Storyline

A young boy named Link was raised in the village of the elf-like Kokiri people. One day a fairy named Navi introduces him to the village's guardian, the Great Deku Tree. It appears that a mysterious man has cursed the tree, and Link is sent to the Hyrule Castle to find out more. Princess Zelda tells Link that Ganondorf, the leader of the Gerudo tribe, seeks to obtain the Triforce, a holy relic that grants immense power to the one who possesses it. Link must do everything in his power to obtain the Triforce before Ganondorf does, and save Hyrule.
