About

The World After, released in 2021, is a unique indie adventure game that combines full-motion video and point-and-click mechanics to create a gripping narrative experience. Set against the backdrop of a pandemic lockdown in France, players follow the story of a man unraveling the enigma of his haunting nightmares and the mysteries of his village. Its engaging storytelling and cinematic approach distinguish it from other titles in the genre.

In terms of PC performance, The World After is quite accessible, requiring only an entry-level GPU with a minimum benchmark score of around 1174 and 2 GB of RAM. This means that even budget systems can handle the game with decent FPS at moderate graphics settings. For smooth gameplay, players should consider GPUs in the low-end spectrum, allowing for an enjoyable experience without investing heavily in high-end hardware.

Given its compelling story and innovative design, The World After is worth playing, especially for fans of adventure and indie games. Its unique approach to storytelling and immersive graphics make it a standout title that deserves attention, particularly for those interested in exploring themes influenced by real-world events.

Performance profile

Released in May 2021, The World After targets RTX 20/30-series and RX 6000-era hardware. A current mid-range GPU (RTX 4060 Ti / RX 7700 XT) is the sweet spot for 1440p Ultra; 4K needs a high-end card.

The World After is a narrative-driven experience — a rock-solid 60 FPS is plenty. Prioritise resolution and image quality (AA, anisotropic filtering) over chasing high-refresh framerates.

Extremely light — The World After runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.

Storyline

Set during a pandemic lockdown in France, The World After tells the story of Vincent, a writer that fled the city in order to work on his new book. Recurring strange dreams push him to look for the truth behind the village mystery. As he investigates an old castle, he finds a way to switch between night and day and start being chased by a dreadful monster, The Nightwatcher. Will he be able to find answers? What lies beyond the Tannhäuser Gate? Who or what is The Nightwatcher? What is the meaning of the strange messages he keeps on finding?
