About
Tomb Raider: Underworld (2008) is an action-adventure game that emphasizes exploration and environmental puzzle-solving alongside combat encounters. Players take control of Lara Croft as she investigates exotic locations worldwide, navigating intricate level design with a focus on discovery and player choice. The game is notable for its detailed environments and high-definition visual presentation that was impressive for its time.
Underworld is relatively accessible by modern standards, making it an excellent benchmark title for older or budget GPUs. The game runs smoothly on entry-level and mid-range graphics cards, easily achieving 60+ FPS at 1080p with moderate settings. Even integrated graphics can handle respectable frame rates, though dedicated GPUs will provide better performance and allow maxing out visual quality. If you're testing older hardware or building a budget gaming PC, this title offers a good performance baseline.
With a solid 75/100 rating, Underworld delivers an engaging adventure for fans of action and exploration-heavy games. If you enjoy tomb raiding, puzzle-solving, and cinematic storytelling, it's worth experiencing despite its age.
Performance profile
November 2008 release. Tomb Raider: Underworld targets mid-2000s-to-early-2010s hardware — any modern entry-level GPU (GTX 1650 tier or newer integrated graphics) handles it at 1080p Ultra without breaking a sweat.
Tomb Raider: Underworld is a narrative-driven experience — a rock-solid 60 FPS is plenty. Prioritise resolution and image quality (AA, anisotropic filtering) over chasing high-refresh framerates.
Extremely light — Tomb Raider: Underworld runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.
Storyline
Continuing the events from Tomb Raider: Legend and Tomb Raider: Anniversary, her search brings her once again to locations around the globe from the cold wastes of the Arctic to the beautiful landscapes of Thailand. This time even the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea is not save from Lara's exploring. At the same time the game continues to explore the idea of monomyth, this time incorporating the influences of the Norse mythology into its narrative.
