About

Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince (2019) is a 2.5D puzzle-platformer that reunites the series' three iconic heroes for their most extensive adventure yet. The game combines physics-based puzzle solving with action-adventure gameplay across stunning, hand-crafted environments. It's a notable return to the 2D side-scrolling formula that made earlier Trine games beloved by fans of the genre.

Trine 4 is quite accessible from a performance standpoint and doesn't demand high-end hardware to run well. The game requires only an entry-level GPU with a minimum score around 1847 to hit playable frame rates, along with 4GB of RAM. Even modest integrated graphics can deliver solid FPS performance at lower graphics settings, making it an excellent benchmark title for testing older or budget-friendly gaming systems.

With a solid 74/100 rating, Trine 4 is a worthwhile pick for fans of cooperative puzzle-platformers and adventure games. If you enjoy creative level design and don't mind the indie aesthetic, this is an accessible and enjoyable experience that won't stress your GPU.

Performance profile

October 2019 release. Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince was built around the GTX 10-series / RX Vega era. Current-gen mid-range cards (RTX 4060 / RX 7600) are overkill at 1080p and handle 1440p Ultra comfortably.

Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince is a narrative-driven experience — a rock-solid 60 FPS is plenty. Prioritise resolution and image quality (AA, anisotropic filtering) over chasing high-refresh framerates.

Extremely light — Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.

Storyline

Prince Selius suffers from intensely dark dreams and, due to his magical talents, monstrous nightmares are able to slip into reality and wreak havoc on the waking world. Amadeus, Pontius, and Zoya must find the afflicted prince and resolve the desperate situation before the world is engulfed by the Nightmare Prince's shadows.
